Sure, stage wins count all the same in the end but I've read and heard many times of cyclists that some wins are more special. For sprinters, this is Champs Elysses or the opening stage. For GC riders, it's Alpe d'Huez or Mont Ventoux. Why deny that some wins are more prestigious than others? This is one of the things that cycling tradition gives us. And cycling tradition lives of the hardships and fame of the mountains and pavé too.
Also some wins are so special and spectacular that you can not put a number or price tag on them. Laiseka getting the first win for Euskaltel, Mayo flying up next to basques, Moncoutie winning on Bastille day or getting the first french stage win on a hard suffering day like Riblon at Alpe d'Huez. Pantani fighting all the way up Mont Ventoux, coming back, attacking, falling behind, and then winning against Armstrong! Actually, anything Pantani ever did in le Tour is worth remembering just by deed alone fyi.
Then, I remember how many emotions I had watching those guys and how much I still fondly remember their wins and how impressed I am of their suffering. Cavendish, Kittel, even Greipel? They are in the bunch, coming out 200, 100 meters before the line. In the end, just a number of wins and an odd memory of a generic victory salute.
Yes, wins count the same on the paper, but imo they don't count the same for the sport's history.

My point being that all the stages have the value and once your a stage winner no one can take it away from you be sprint/break/mountain they all count as 1
I'll admit I can't remember the more in betweener stages, except the crazy breakaway stage that EBH took. Not sure where it went to but it wasn't an MTF.
That was a great stage! I think Hushovd and Hesjedal were also in EBH's group that day. Or am I thinking of a different stage?

Oh crap, no, I think that was the other breakaway mountain stage that Hushovd won with Hesjedal's help. I just remembered when you said that. That was an insane stage as well. What a phenomenal Tour that was in general.

Yeah, honestly I generally only watch an hour or two of most flat stages, even in the biggest races. It's not worth waking up earlier for me to watch status quo for 4 hours. Mountain stages are more exciting for me personally. As thrilling as sprint finishes can be, they last a way shorter time frame than a good mountain stage. That's my personal perspective.
Yeah we all know that mountain stages is one to wait and watch all..day. Maybe someone will attack before 2km. from finish mark. Still we will come next day and hope it again.
Same time to say that winning Champ Elysee 3 or was it 4 times row is just nothing, and boring? And wont leave a mark at history as doped mad dogs like Rasmussen, Ricco uphill burst.
What a heck we are talking about?
You wont be cycling fan if you can not enjoy pure ..fast..dangerous sprint finishes.
Oleg is just idiot..I told you when he was coming back to cycling. Most did not believed me. He is idiot like Trump ..who is starting to tweet after few vodkas ..and then not choosing words.
Worst part..he wakes up with hangover..and reading that again..and thinking. I was damn right!
Please stay away from cycling Oleg. |

I don't like to mix cycling with politics as there are many different views etc. in cycling as people are from different countries, but I agree. I don't think Trump is bad, but he is a fucking idiot, a chump. Oleg is the same, an idiot, a chump. He gave the sport a bit more of a personality but he was only a celebrity in the sport, not much of a figure.
Should he stay away? With those fat bucks he has, probably not. He could make a team with such talent and use those riders to ride aggressively. Better yet(what I'd do), set up a team or multiple teams focused on youth development and getting young riders into good shape for the future. Then we'd see many talented riders battle it out one day and it would be a nicer atmosphere as pretty much all of them knew each other from their younger years. Like Sagan and Kwiattkowski do. |

I don't like Tinkoff, imo he's a douche with a shit ton of money and a big ego.
BUT he's funny, that's his retweet about Chump's trophy wife
Apart from that he made cycling a bit more colorful.
What else do we got? Everybody recieved media training.
Interviews and stuff all sound the freaking same!!
And some of those dogdy team managers and DSs that are around
won't ever dare to say anything even a bit controversial because they are afraid
of the backlash, media or UCI wise, given their dodgy past.
And thrashing Bertie...I can relate, don't find him sympathic myself.
But that's higly subjective and just my opinion. |

One of the biggest talents if not THE biggest talent in the world, Egan Bernal, says he has signed with a WT team for 2018. I wonder mow much he costed since he had a 4-year contract, Savio is a genius.
9th in San Luis, 7th in Langkawi, 5th in GP Industtria, 16th in T-A (very impressive on both climbing days), 4th Coppi e Bartali and 2nd en Apennino. He has achieved these results when he only just turned 20 this year while its only his second year on the road as he has been riding MTB up until. Unfortunately Savio has over raced him so far so he probably wont do that well in Trentino.
Anyways, everything point towards Movistar as it has been reported they have offered a fair amount and should be really interested and because it would make the most sense from a linguistic and cultural perspective, they have 6 South Americans or so.
If thats the case, I really can't wait to see him next year when he already is this good. He would probably ride the Vuelta like Quintana did in 2012 (and will probably get a very similar program) in his first season on the squad as a domestique as well as a lot of minor stage races such as Andalucia, Route du Sud, Vuelta a Burgos etc. Quintana won Murcia and Sud in 2012 along with an amazing stage into Morzine in DL. |
