By the way, far more interesting than the Sky debacle (I honestly don't want to even spend time on them, nothing adds up, its obvious they have been/are doping at this point, even for their fans), Dauphine route is released.

The 3 last stages looks good with 3 new finishes. Solaison should obviously feature in TdF at some point, Mont du Chat is a monster, but would rather have waited to see that during July. The Alpe d' Huez stage is different, all in all looks good.

It will be interesting how it pans out with Sky.

The Edmundson thing does have a whiff off pissed off former rider who got sacked trying to stir up trouble and make a bit of money now he's riding part-time. It's very conveniently come out just as package gate dies down.

If there really was anything going on he would talk about how Sky implemented a doping programme, not how he personally took something without Sky's knowledge.

Also, if the story had real legs it wouldn't be being broken by the world renowned cycling journalists at BBC News.

I think the sport needs to modernise and this is one way it can do it. It's similar to the implementation of 20/20 cricket which has regenerated a flagging sport. A short, sharp version of the sport for people who don't want to sit through a 5 day test match/6 hour stage of a race.
Many of us on here are cycling purists and we all prefer the "real"cycling throughout the year. But cycling is not a rich sport and it needs to attract new supporters in order to keep it going. I think it' a decent initiative. At least someone is doing something to try to shake the sport up a bit. Whether or not it will be a success is another thing, but it should at least be given a chance.
Hahahahaha:lol:
The Belgian classics, Strade Bianche and Paris-Nice were spectacular this year. Cycling doesn't need Velon, Hammer Series etc.

However the sport I liked is clearly dying and th. More and more races are struggling to afford the race and prize moneys while UCI and Velon do nothing except having idiotic ideas that makes cycling even worse

Look at the description:
''Two hour pain-fest'' Rolling Eyes That is pathetic.

They are making cycling more boring and easier. They are making an endurance sport a power freakshow which is not even remotley funny. The real cycling fans are bringing ideas about how to make cycling great again but they are not making it great, they are making it even worse.

With U23 type mountain stages being regularly, the very low amount of TT, mountain stages usually being a ____/ type of stages and not having a 250 km mountainous or hilly stagess, the routes being too backloaded, the races not having not having enough challenges to one dimensional riders (gravel roads and cobbles can be used in race routes) and the very high amount of pure sprint stages in stage races I definitely don't like how cycling is going.

The Milano-San Remo got easier as well with Le Manie being excluded so now the race is more boring and an attack on the final two hills are almost doomed.

The Ardennes are continuing to have their routes too backloaded with easier middle parts and hard finals and the amount of flat kilometers between the climbs they are now a reduced uphill sprints which is pathetic.

And I am not even talking about the team sizes, the radios etc. which just make the races more and more boring. Luckily the cobbled classics are still great to watch. And Lombardia was great to watch in the last 2 years as well. (Taken from my own post in CN forum)

EDIT: Made some changes in the post.

If you can't sit through a couple hours of racing you shouldn't be watching endurance sports

Well yes and no. Yes, road cycling is an endurance sport that takes multiple hours and all those hours do impact on the result. No, because so many races and stages are hours of nothing but travel from point a to point b with no impact beyond taking time and energy.
If every race was as exciting as Roubaix or a Contador long range GC assult cycling would be amazing. But it's not and most races/stages are not exciting, even to the purist fanatic. I couldn't watch all 6 hours of a mountain stage through both getting bored on the days when nothing happens and the fact most people don't have 6 hours to spare like that even if it is an epic stage.

That's the while point. To attract an audience who don't want to sit through a 5hour stage. This series isn't so much for current fans as it is to attract new ones.

Team Wiggo excluded from the Tour de Yorkshire. Undoubtedly a direct result of the recent Sky controversy.

but these new fans should be tuning in because they like endurance sports and like watching long races.

If they don't like cycling cause it's long they should look to other sports.

What works for cyclo-cross can also work for normal cycling imo

Lol @ Ringo. Some of my favourite riders are what you can categorize at sprinters. I just dislike riders such as Cav, Kittel etc. Thats it.

And also, if you look at what they have proposed, its also a TTT and a hilly crit thingy. It has nothing to do with one of the stages being flat, rather the fact that i dont want road cycling to devolve in a new modernly circus.

If every stage was exciting, we wouldn't call exciting stages exciting. Excitement is something out of the ornidary - that we don't see often.

Look, its not like we sit and watch cycling for 6-7 hours, its basically only Roubaix and WCs that are broadcasted from the start and needless to say, its not very interesting the first couple of hours. I mean, some TdF stages are as well, but they are rarely that long either (which is a shame). We have the option to tune in for the last 100 or 50, even 10 kilometres or whenever we choose to. So an argument for more exciting racing should never be effectively make the race easier by shortening the race as we can choose when to tune in anyways.

Those long stages/races serve a purpose. People aren't as fresh, lesser domestiques who otherwise would have been there are shelled, in other words its a race of attrition AND thats when cycling actually gets very interesting. At least to me and thats why Im so much against all this junk.

Edit: Thats the reason that the cobbled classics without a doubt is the best racing at the moment. The races are hard enough to isolate the leaders from their domestiques pretty early and from then its mano-a-mano racing. Omloop, Strade, even K-B-K this year have been amazing in that aspect.
