Future Grand Tour Winners
Ton1Mart1n
(Sorry in advance if there is a thread for this)

I would like to hear who you think will be dominating the grand tours in for example year 2020? 2025? 2027?

We all know Quintana, Aru, Chavez and Yates are faves right now. But who will challenge them? Who will be champions after? Sometimes even the greatest talents fail when it counts. 10 years ago we talked about Popvych, Brajkovic, and yes even Löfkvist was on the board. One thing we learned. We can never count on what last year showed us. Thats the beauty of cycling.

I have a good eye on Jungels. He is a complete rider but maybe he'll struggle in the mountains with all the light colombians? Mads Würtz Schmidt is also pretty domestic. Good ITT which is a huge factor.

Who do you think will be the guy to watch in 5, 7, 10 years? and why?

In 5 years probably the Yates' and Chaves among others.

7/10 years is probably too far to say. Look at all the young riders who are labelled as tour winners at 22 and then end up riding for continental teams by 25. Given the average age of a Tour winner is 28-30 the dominant riders in 10 years time will be about 16,17,18 now. Anything can happen at that age.

There's only one answer. And he'll dominate in 5 years time, in 7 years time, in 10 years time. The first ever 10 time Tour winner, guaranteed.

Adrien Costa is probably your best bet. He rides for Axeon again this year, but has shown insane potential, for example in Utah last year. I'd say he is the most gifted psychically right now.

Then there's also Egan Bernal. Despite Androni got snubbed for the Giro wildcard this year, he will have plenty of races to show off. First year on the road last year, the guy is crazy.

Enric Mas, rode for Fundación Contador, and is a brilliant climber. I have high hopes for him as well.

And of course, David Gaudu. Pure climber from France and beat Bernal and Costa in Avenir.

Adrien Costa is a beast. He turned 19 the day before l'Avenir and finished 3rd overall, winning the ITT. He also was second overall in Utah, beating Talansky and Atapuma among others. He's already a very complete stage racer and I'd look for him to improve his results across the continental circuit further this year.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

He could start his domination by dropping by again in the forum. ;(

My PCM career agrees. But to be fair, he's trading blows with Jesley....so that's not too accurate, i guess...

And Wout! Im pretty sure he will race some of the minor cobbled classics races this season.

Other interesting names could be Sam Oomen (won Tour de l'Ain a few days before turning 21) - though he'll probably have the Dutch curse - , Latour, Kevin Rivera (may sound surprising but from what I heard his values are incredible for an 18-year-old.

Van der Poel has a perfect physique for a climber-engine guy, Wout looks to be more like a puncheur ala Philbear tbh?

Laporte will be dominating soon, already better than Sagan as proved on Ventoux.

What do you mean? Sagan on Ventoux, is that a proper comparison? Smile

Well it's one of the toughest climbs in the world, and Laporte beat him by almost 3 minutes!
