Racing already 2 days in and no thread about it. About time I guess.
Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic 2017
Stage 1
Caleb Ewan wanted to defend his title here but crashed in the last corner with 200-300m to go in first position.
Hence Bibby took the win as also his sprint leader Brenton Jones apparently got blocked a bit by this scene.
1 | Ian Bibby (GBr) JLT Condor | 12 | pts | 2 | Jesse Kerrison (Aus) Isowhey Sports Swisswellness | 10 | | 3 | Mathew Gibson (GBr) Condor | 8 | | 4 | Cameron Bayly (Aus) Isowhey Sports Swisswellness | 7 | | 5 | Anthony Giacoppo (Aus) Isowhey Sports Swisswellness | 6 | | 6 | Patrick Lane (Aus) Vtwo Team | 5 | | 7 | Samuel Spokes (Aus) Total Rush | 4 | | 8 | Alistair Donohoe (Aus) GTR | 3 | | 9 | Ali Slater (GBr) JLT Condor | 2 | | 10 | Scott Sunderland (Aus) Isowhey Sports Swisswellness | 1
Stage 2
Ewan back in good form it seems and had to try something. Attacked mid-stage but got no real support. Hence a sprint. Though Hepburn attacked late and succeeded.
Bibby again best sprinter with Gibson again in 3rd.
1 | Michael Hepburn (Aus) Orica Scott | 1:00:23 | | 2 | Ian Bibby (GBr) JLT Condor | 0:00:06 | | 3 | Mathew Gibson (GBr) Condor | | | 4 | Brenton Jones (Aus) JLT Condor | 0:00:08 | | 5 | Caleb Ewan (Aus) Orica Scott | | | 6 | Samuel Spokes (Aus) Total Rush | | | 7 | Anthony Giacoppo (Aus) Isowhey Sports Swisswellness | | | 8 | Benjamin Hill (Aus) GTR | 0:00:09 | | 9 | Cameron Bayly (Aus) Isowhey Sports Swisswellness | | | 10 | Nathan Haas (Aus) Vtwo Team

There has been an NC thread for every full year of PCM.daily's existence
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Stupid tactics from Bora, they showed that they are strong but not enough for the win.

More that they haven't got much experience for a winning sprint train, it's takes time for a sprinter and train to gel together, even if Sagan tends not to need one.

As expected Ewan takes the first stage at the TDU from Van Poppel and Bennett. Wow that was a boring stage to watch and pretty bad TV coverage to boot.
1 Ewan Caleb ORICA-Scott
2 van Poppel Danny Team Sky
3 Bennett Sam Bora - Hansgrohe
4 Kump Marko UAE Abu Dhabi
5 Bonifazio Niccolo Bahrain Merida Pro Cycling Team
6 Arndt Nikias Team Sunweb
7 Planckaert Baptiste Team Katusha - Alpecin
8 Theuns Edward Trek - Segafredo
9 Scotson Miles BMC Racing Team
10 de Bie Sean Lotto Soudal

Since there's no thread, Ewan wins ahead of van Poppel and Bennett, Swift (?) and Bonifazio. Sunweb doing really well but Arndt couldn't deliver (he got swamped, then came out but got swamped almost immediately )

Sagan didn't fancy the sprint then?
Or did something happen to him. I'm tipping him to win overall so guess he may be saving himself.

He's Bennett's leadout man.

Of course. It's that early in the season I'm still remembering who's on whose team.
