News in November
Marcovdw
Today is, amongst others, World Vegan Day, Men Make Dinner Day, French Fried Clam Day, Vinegar Day, and Marco spends too much time reading useless lists on Wikipedia Day.

I have no cycling-related news though

Sorry to bring it back to cycling - hint video on social media by Team Sky seem to indicate Castelli announcement on Thursday, whilst Movistar 2017 kit to be revealed by Endura and Alex Dowsett at Rouleur London Expo on Friday

Willy Willwohl, one of the most talented sprinters out there, quits cycling for instead working in the family-company...in my eyes that is a petty and also a huge failure of the German sports federation, cause you can't just leave huge talents as unsupported as they do with a couple of guys

Willwohl himself told that it was a mixture of lacking rewards, problems with his team and not finding a better new one, several injuries and thus a lack of training motivation lead to the end of his career.

Sad day for German cycling...

It is a shame when a young guy quits. But you could also argue that if he has lost motivation at this age he obviously didn't really love the sport and probably wouldn't have made it to the top levels anyway.
Lots of guys get to his age/level on natural talent. Only those dedicated enough then make it to the highest levels.

He's at an age where you have to make a choice, become a pro cyclist and earn well for 15 years, then finding your way back to a normal life, or settle for a normal life immediatly. I can blame people for wanting a "normal" life.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

The German cycling scene has a huge hole. There is no German PCT with Bora leveling up and Stölting leveling down to Continental level again. Also Giant and Bora (the WT teams with German license) have more international flavour now which in Bora is now more apparent with the star power of Sagan, Majka and König and Giant is essentially Dutch team.

Also there is no high profile race in Germany with Bayern Rundfahrt cancelled again. Hopefully ASO will help with the Deutschland Tour

Castelli at sky is definately real. Spoke to some soigneurs at sky (eneco tour) who said Rapha was going to leave. Castelli will be their new clothing sponsor

Two continental teams merge into Veranda's Willems-Crelan and will go PCT in 2017. The cyclocross team will consist of guys like Tim Merlier, Stan Godrie and Jappe Jaspers, but they will also get their chances on the road (Wout Van Aert in Strade Bianchi or Ronde Van Vlaanderen? Shock ). The road team will have guys like Timothy Dupont, Stijn Devolder, Gaëtan Bille and Dries De Bondt. Nick Nuyens will be the manager.

Pretty intense article (in German) on Dominik Nerz and his retirement. Talks about his physical condition and how he got to this point. Can't do more than going for walks and slow rides on a mountain bike at the moment, struggles with head aches and dizziness at times. Good read, though a really sad one, too.

Hopefully MVP rides them too then, otherwise two of the most exciting races will turn into a one-man Wout show Frown Wink

thank you cunego for that link...I knew (and mentioned here) that Nerz left because of the amount of crashes, but this is taking the whole thing to another level

I feel very much for him, as he was quite a likeable rider! Get well soon and good luck for the future, Dom!

Cyclingtips awards of the year. https://cyclingti...st-riders/

Giving ride of the year to Hayman instead of Tommeke is a joke. Basically everything Hayman did was due to Tommeke. Boonen made the race 100km out, his team and he took control of it all, and he was stubbornly active in the finale too, none weaker than Hayman really, who naturally reserved more energy than Tommeke. Hayman got lucky he had Tommeke at his side. Boonen forced his luck. Bullshit award that belittles the legend of Tommeke's PR 2016 ride.

Pff, Hayman is very well deserved winner of that award, it was truly the ride of the year what he did in P-R. Boonen was just lame not to beat him with his experience in that race...
