Some really great stages, but I do agree to some part with Riis123. A lot of 'meh' stages, especially 14 and 17. 16 and 18 looks fantastic, also really nice to have the mix in length in the two toughest stages in the race. But a little bummer that we're not climbing Mortirolo from the hardest side

It has the potential if the riders want to make it a hard race, but man, I miss some of the monsters of the dolomites. |

I quite like the Giro.
The early MTFs look nice, even without Blockhaus to top and _____/ stage design.
The stage to Bromio is brutal, and I like the controversial stage to Ortisei too.
Also well-balanced, and no TTT!
The only negatives are the two last road stages in my opinion.

Whats controversial about it?
So you like the stage to Bergamo, you like the silly and meaningless MTF at Oropa etc? |

I dont understand...this GT has everything, i love it.
This profile ______/ is not meaningless at all, when it is not every second stage there is (cough...Vuelta...cough). It provides some variety to "shark teeth" profiles.

I heard many negative opinions about this stage, that's what I intended to say.

The stage to Oropa is ok, although the finish is probably to soft. And yeah, the stage to Bergamo looked to me good at first view, but the placing of this stage ahead of the queens stage is bad.

It's an improvement on the Tour route in terms of actually including all aspects of grand tour racing that should be included. Decent TT miles, decent number of mountain stages and 4 proper mountain top finishes.
Guess we just have to wait for riders to start declaring themselves for the race so we can start to predict what will actually happen.
I'm going to come out early and say Nibali/Aru 1st and 2nd but not necessarily in that order.

Not with Sky, no way they're ever going to make him risk a tip top shape for Le Tour

Would be unlikely but maybe they could do it as a one off. They've still got others who can go for the Tour. Given the route of the Tour and lack of summit finishes someone like Thomas, Poels or Landa could lead.

As I've said, its an improvement over the Tour, most definitely.
But the Giro should be judged a little differently. And especially since its the 100th version of the race. Some of the stages seems to lazy and badly designed - stage into Bergamo, Oropa (3rd Vuelta-style MTF), but especially stage 20 which probably is the biggest letdown of the presentation. Mind, this is the easiest side of Grappa, its not a long stage, nor does it really have any major difficulties. |

I think Sky will go to the Giro with Landa and Poels. Poels wants to lead a GT and Landa is signed for the purpose of winning the Giro, at least that was the case last year. Then they obviously also have Henao, but I don't think he will participate. Thomas is off I'd say. Too Tour-centric, despite he really shouldn't be. |

Looking at the route again, I just realised they haven't climbed Stelvio from Prato since 2005 which by far is the hardest side. Hmm, that sucks.
The stage will still be a monster tho. Looking at the categorisations from RCS, I find it funny how a shallow mono-climb stage such as Oropa gets 4 stars while the last ITT gets 2 stars. |

Pinot wants to do both Giro and Tour. https://www.cyclin...o-ditalia/
Good, Nibali needs opponents, not victims at Il Giro.. Giro for GC, stage wins at le Tour. Imo perfect plan for a great season.

If previous form is anything to go by it'll be more like 9th at the Giro and DNF at the Tour.
Pinot needs to step up next year. One grand tour top 5 in his career is not good enough when you consider what the likes of Quintana, Chaves and Yates (other young riders) have been doing in that time. The one time he finished in the top 3 he was beaten by Jean-Cristophe Peraud
Possibly a victim of France's lack of decent grand tour riders in the last 30 years. He'll be 27 next year so should be reaching his peak so it'll be make or break for him. Do you think he needs to move to a stronger team to reach his potential?

Bardet says the same, but I am sceptic if they are allowed to do so. That will compromise their chances of doing well in France, obviously, but by how much? They can't ride GC, thats for sure and given the route of Giro and Tour, Bardet should realistically do the Tour.
It will be the best option for Pinot tho. But lots of riders will take the opportunity to go the Italy: Nibali, Aru, Landa, Kruijswijk, Pinot, Majka, Zakarin, Dumoulin and Jungels (I suppose), and probably Don and Chaves. |

I'm 90% sure Pinot will go to the Giro. It's been at least 2 years it's been rumored by now and he had a clause or something with FDJ that specified he had to do the Giro at least once before his contract expired.
Bardet vs Pinot in the Giro would be absolutely great if they don't destroy each other somehow though

That would be a exciting race with so many contenders. Much better then the Tour which has turned into a two horse race between Froome and Quintana, with Contador doing his best to get involved. Quintana didn't even turn up last year which made it even worse.
Bardet would be better concentrating on the Tour. He finished 2nd last year so why jeopardise his chance to podium again by riding the Giro. If he won the Tour as a Frenchman after such a drought he would instantly be a French national hero and would be remembered for all eternity.
Besides, the Tour course has obviously been deliberately designed to hinder Froome and assist Bardet so why would he ride the Giro?

Etixx - Quick-Step becomes.........just Quick-Step for 2017. This may hint that the team may cease after 2017?
