that looks like a really good team they put together - I expect them to finish between P6-10 in the CQ ranking concerning the PCT teams

great to see Blythe get a ride with them, although a few more irish riders would have been nice IMO. They are the Cannondale of the PCT with that number of different nationalities

I can't complain about their dempgraphy, they stick to riders that are from the commonwealth or proven riders for Northern or Western Europe

Latest moto incident -__-

Although this one almost tops the lot in terms of ridiculousness. Not only was it during an ITT, but the crash with a police bike that was supposed to be protecting a previous crash.

To provide some balance. This wasn't Moolman being hit by a moto, but no-one signalling there was an upcoming obsturction, that happened to be a moto. So not the usual "Rider X hit by TV bike" but still a "wtf are bikes doing" incident

Seems like another example of police riders/stewards not knowing how to police/steward cycling events.

He does every race in the calendar year though doesn't he Smile

Is there a record for consecutive grand tours he can go for?

Uhm... what do you think Adam Hansen has been doing for the past few years?

Looks like Valverde has left it a bit too late then. Although if anyone in the peloton is going to keep racing until they are 40 it's him Smile

In terms of who will show up, I'll consider Aru, Nibali, Landa and Kruijswijk as 100%, but after the TdF-route has been presented, I'd think Chaves and Bardet will reconsider doing the Giro (which I think was their plain beforehand, both have hinted that).

Valverde is a joker, so is Pinot. Both could very well do it, the latter has been speaking of it for a while and the Giro will suit him much more in terms of time trial miles. Valverde's only chance to lead a GT is the Giro.

I've probably forgot a few. Contador, Quintana and Froome are 100% on the Tour-wagon which is fine since there will be plenty in Italy this year. So is Porte. Dumoulin has been on the record saying he will lead a GT next year and it will probably be the Giro considering how unbalanced the Tour is

3 days to RCS will reveal the Giro-route.

Needless to say, it will be levels above the Tour. The Giro organisers have gotten it right the last few years (especially in 2015) and we are about to see some pretty juicy stages, I think. Especially the stage to Bormio over Mortirolo, Umbrail and Stelvio (hard side) will be a goodie.

The route has already been leaked, with a stage combining two accents of the Stelvio. Last stage does go to Milan contrary to rumours, but instead of a sprint stage it'll be a time trial!

Very exciting, going to be a spectacular giro, even though that last stage is not to the advantage of my favourite, Chavito Wink

Yep, and already some hard stages early on as well. MTF on Etna on stage 4 and Blockhaus on stage 9 and probably around 70 kilometres of more or less flat ITT. Grappa on the second last day, but the big question is how the dolomite stage will look like.

For more of what? It's a good idea in my eyes to give all 3 weeks a little bit of everything. The third week is kind of soft, but in exchange they start the battle for the GC much earlier this year which I like tour. The organisators took some risks for this race in my eyes, nut with knowing that the big 2 and a half won't be there it's kind of the right idea to try something in a year like this.

What I also like with a TT finish is that the GC leader can't just sit on wheels and say: "If you want to go for the win then you have to overtake me on the road and I just sit on right behind you", but instead always have to fear that a final chrono can break him.

I can't complain!

+ Hard MTFs early on
+ A proper queen stage
+ I guess decent 2 first stages that many riders can win
+ 70 kilometres of ITT
+ A decent medium mountain stage

- Oropa
- 3 of the 7 mountain stages are effectively one climb stages
- No sterrato
- Completely irrelevant Lombardia stage
- 2 po valley stages
- Only one medium mountain stage (the best thing about the Giro)
- Meh Dolomite stage (No Fedaia, Giau etc)
- Incredibly bad designed last mountain stage
- Many really short stages
- While Piancovallo is nice, its a one climb stage late in the race
- Many weak sides of the hardest climbs (Stelvio, Mortirolo, Grappa)

Its decent, but I (and many more) and much higher expectations. Especially because it was the 100th edition. A good sterrato stage (stage 8) and Lombardia stageinto Bergamo had gone a long along with an actual last stage that doesnt suck balls. Its still better than the Tour, but man, they could have done so, so much better if you actually know the possibilites that the start and finish towns promised.
