Seeing Avin commenting here I'd almost prefer a Danish win.

Because when someone wins by accident, it sucks, i agree with Riis.
Btw how do you enjoy the 2nd title for your "favourite" rider?
Accident? It's not like 30 guys crashed in front of him and he went and took the title.
I was half-joking.
I know it is impressive to even be in that group, but i am no fan of outsider won, lets all cheer mentality, never was. I like when strongest rider wins.
So you must be devastated, that only the 2nd best won.
I am not sure what do you mean by that.
Cav was stronger than Sagan today.

Sagan is definitely world champion worthy glad he won and not someone like Viviani or Matthews.
Bronze for Tommeke
LoL what's your problem? Have respect. Viviani is DESERVEDLY Olympic Track Champion.
Though Nizzolo was the leader for us, not Viviani.

Fun Fact - Sagan is only the 6-th rider to win back to back world road races. Here are the six riders to acheive that
Georges Ronsee
Rik Van Steenbergen
Rik van Looy
Gianni Bugno
Paolo Bettini
Peter Sagan
Also Slovakia is the first nation from East Europe to have been on the top spot two or more times

Best fact is that this is the first time that the three guys on the podium had already been World Champ previously

The nickname 2agan gets a totally different interpretation, doesn't it?

Cav was stronger than Sagan today.
If you mean physically, maybe. Or maybe not. But cycling isn't JUST about legs. Riders aren't donkeys, there are other elements that come into play. Tactics, positioning etc... If you're the strongest physically but get your tactics or your positioning wrong, you won't win. And vice-versa.
Other than for an accident like idk, some dog crossing the road, the best on the day always wins because to be the best on the day, you have to be a combination of strong and smart. Not necessarily the strongest or the smartest, but the best average of the two
Side note: hurray for the French who managed to make a total mess of the WC once again :/ |

So, Velo d'Or for Froome or 2agan? Both with amazing seasons. Whilst Froome has the TdF and 2nd at Vuelta going for him plus a olympic bronze medal (but it's in the time trial, so.. not that awesome really..), 2agan was consistent all the time and had three major highlights (Flanders, Green + 3 stages, WC).
Sagan
1st World Championships
1st Ronde van Vlaanderen
1st European Championships
1st Points Clas. TdF +3 stages
1st Gent Wevelgem
1st Quebec
2nd E3 & Tirreno Adriatico
2 stage wins in Suisse and California each
Possibly higher at MSR if it wasn't for Gaviria's crash.
Froomster
1st Tour de France + 2 stage wins
2nd Vuelta a Espana + 2 stage wins
3rd Olympic Time Trial
1st Criterium du Dauphine
Stage win at Romandie, 1st Herald Sun tour
Both really, really amazing. 2agan the more impressive tho in the performance itself (flanders was beastly), but mainly he has once in a lifetime consistency too (only Valv comes close really)

Sagan proves his class again. Would have been interesting if Cavendish hadn't picked the wrong route. At least we can put Qatar behind us and look forward to next season.

Hard race today..you have to admire Cav. how he managed to keep himself inside very selected group.
Sagan is worthy world champion..he is best man to wear and be visibly again at the next year.
Cav. damn he was good today..Sagan was lucky to slip true barriers and Nizzolo. Cav was on he's wheel and chosed other side. It was only possible option..he was bit stuck behind Matthews..then he was again fastest man. But to late. Sagan played him out today.
Tommeke..I really like that guy, amazing bike rider, legend already..and I am really happy to see him at podium again. |

Has to be Sagan for the Vélo d'Or imho..
And i don't think Sagan was "lucky to slip through", the guy has a consistent record of excellent positioning. After a while, luck isn't an explanation anymore, it has to be skill |

Aside from Laporte who outclasses the competition so much he probably won't be counted. Sagan deserves it 100% but it tends to be biased towards the TDF winner, so I guess chances are Froome will get it.

Are you serious? A random domestique shouldn't wear the rainbow jersey for a whole season, its reserved for the best riders in the world. Not a by accident-attack from Leezer in the desert of Qatar.
If he was strong enough to hold up in that spot then he totally deserves it.
Thats not what I am arguing
Its a personal preference. Leezer winning would just about have capped off the worst Worlds for me, a random guy you'll never see wearing the stripes. |
