I don't quite get your post.
Are you saying we should have races on the beach or in a lake?
No, you said outdoor sporting events. Beach volleyball, waterskiing, wakeboarding, etc.
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Oh. What I meant was that if a country is too hot to naturally grow grass, it's sure as hell going to be too hot to hold competitive sporting events.
Obviously there may be exceptions, like water sports. But 99% of outdoor sports will be unsuitable for Qatar. Especially cycling 250km.

I heard in german TV today, that they'll probably cut the race down to 106 KM. If that's really the case, Kittel should have this in the bag. Or Cav.

So the World Championships will be the same length as an amateur race. Great.
Well done UCI.
It might make it a bit more exciting as a break could stay away. Then again they might just not let a breakaway go away in the first place.

Does the UK have 9 riders? You can shut down a 106 KM race with 9 riders, and Germany will probably add a few as well. Maybe even France will settle for a controled race.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Yeah, GB have a full team I think. Although Cavendish has been saying he's ill. Not sure if that's a bit of psychology or not. If he can recreate his TdF form he will be hard to beat with a full team behind him.

I'm sure Brailsford has the TUE already arranged

Probably. But then again there is nothing illegal about it so Team GB can be TUE'd up to their eyeballs

If Bouhanni doesn't win the WC road race, he is for the fourth time in a row, gonna finish his season with 11 wins.

Gaviria taking it from the break.

Pretty much this all the way. Then again, Qatar pays UCI air conditioner, so they probably don't care about the riders..

If we live in a world where the WC are barely longer than a hometown amateur race or a post tour crit, it's not a world I want to live in anymore.

But as far as I did read, the 106ish km will be ridden, if it's hotter than 40°C.

Just to provide an actual source to this discussion, otherwise anyone could make up any numbers they like
https://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/r...eat-288396
106.4km would come from cutting the 150km countryside run-in to the main area of the worlds. For other events it woul be about reducing laps.
Not only would the actual shorter distance changed things, but putting more emphasis on the twisty nature of the laps would also change things given the vastly increased number of riders making it the laps.

Gaviria doesn't need a break to win this.
