It still takes lots of mental strength to go with the power meter and let everyone get ahead of you just like that... drop 30 seconds behind peleton to catch up.. not as easy at it looks..

yeaah..Lance also liked numbers. But only when he was training.
Most of top riders are quite even..difference between them is just 1-3%
He is only one who looking after attack powermeter..and he knows that they can not keep up that 600w acceleration long enough..I just scroll with 350-400w all climb and they wont win a dick. This is impossible escape away from that tactic without proper dope.
It is effective..but is damn boring and killing cycling.

He can not ride ..accelerate all the way up. What makes you think he is doped..that he is trying to attack, and wont sit and stere power meter? True

If everyone did what Froome does it would be boring as it would effectively be tt'ing up a mountain, but as he is the only one doing it I think it adds a bit of excitement to the climbs.
Different riders have different styles. Some attack early on, some attack late, some set a tempo and stick to it.
Most climbs are simply the favourites watching each other until the final 1k when they all sprint for the line which can be equally as boring. At least this Vuelta has had a lot of styles competing which I think has made for some exciting climbs.

I`d rather have the riders dotting up the mountain with powermeters than just sitting in one huge pack until the last km and doing nothing exciting other than let one strong domestique like Scarponi ride the mountain alone in front, most times not even catching the breakaway.
One or two additional powermeter or steady pace riders like Froome and every mountains stage would be great.
A balanced mix of both types of riders would be the best.
I still remember Carlos Sastre in his last professional years dotting the climbs back up and sometimes catching the favourite group with this tactic after they attacked. |
