Don't normally watch any bmx or mountain biking so I'm looking forward to watching a bit over the next few days. Who are the favourites I should look out for?
The Dutch site Wielerflits made a prediction for the race, and gave the following favourites
**** Joris Daudet
*** Niek Kimmann en Māris Štrombergs
** Nicholas Long, Sam Willoughby en Liam Phillips
* Amidou Mir, Twan van Gendt, Connor Fields en David Graf
(full prediction here)

Really hard to explain Štrombergs' result as the first few spins from the start were there as usual, but after that... total mystery. |

photo finish clearly shows Ramirez ahead of Long, fuck it let's give them both bronze
Gold | Silver | Bronze | Pajon | Post | Hernandez | Fields | Van Gorkom | Ramirez |
edit: they came to their senses and didn't award Long with bronze for finishing 4th

Wow, really unlucky for all of the Aussies to miss out on a medal here. Buchanan looked great but got caught up in a crash and missed the final on a points countback, then Dean and Willoughby win all six of the semi-final runs between them only to then miss out in the final.
Pajon was clearly the best of the women though, she definitely deserved to get her second gold medal. Colombia and the USA with (6 of 7) medals is pretty incredible tbh.

Last and alone? Perfect. Plenty of room to jump over the other riders!

In very convincing style even. What a ride from her! (and what a disappointment from Langvad)

Sagan is starting at the back row..let's see is it more then big hype. He need to be fast at the start..should be close to 10th place before they get into first rocks.
As danish type fan mode..I want to see show as he stoled Martin Loo (world standing 17th.) start place |

Ehm, what?
Dont know what hype or stolen starting position you are talking about. Slovakia had one place and decided to use it for Sagan.
He aint hyped for sure. Maybe from mass media that know shit about Mtb, but other riders and MTB fans knows what mountain to climb he has in font of him...

Yeaah I know..that system sucks. Here comes my frustration.
Man who has been raced two years for points to get into olympics has been always around 10th places..when he races.
Same time guy who has been ride none MTB wc races can have a ticket. I believe other slovakian MTB riders wont be happy eather. They earned that ticket and road guy deciding to have some fun. Cycling press is happy..something to write about.
I like Sagan.. I really do. |
