I guess you right. Although I still maintain that cycling at the professional level is a team sport.
The fact the Olympic race had individuals competing shows that it is different to normal races as I had argued.
Has a rider ever won the world champs/Olympics as a solo competitor?
Vainsteins I think.
And Evans ofcourse

Vino is also a good shout out, at least Peter had his brother fetching bottles for the first 20 kms |

Not officially, PCS says that Vainsteins had two team-mates (although neither of them finished the race). I can't see any recent examples of solo winners in the Elite WC or Olympics.
Interestingly, if Sagan had entered the Olypmic Road Race he would have been competing solo since Slovakia only earned one quota place. Considering that a similar rider type in Van Avermaet won, he could have been a decent chance.

Geraint Thomas to ride Olympic TT
I can now announce that I'm really thrilled to get a last minute call up to represent Team GB in the time trial race tomorrow. I would like to wish all those who withdrew through injury a quick recovery. I lost quite a bit of skin in my crash and my hip took a good whack but other than that my legs are feeling good and I can’t wait to race again tomorrow. Thanks for all your messages and kind words – feel very honoured to be representing Team GB again!

Just a counterpoint, Belgium to me looked like perhaps the strongest, or atleast one of the strongest teams in the race (maybe only behind Italy) and he more than likely benefited from that.
Then again, it is Sagan.

Dumoulin & Froome wins medal, question is which one.
Unless they are very unlucky with weather, crash or puncture.
Hope Christopher Juul-Jensen can surprise.
Guess:
1: Dumoulin
2: Froome
3: Kiryienka
Top 20: Christopher Juul-Jensen
Hope: (Not unrealistically)
1: Froome
2: Dumoulin
3: Cancellara
Top 10: Christopher Juul-Jensen |

I'll watch the time trials today! If you see a tall guy with a big Swedish flag on the Grota Funda climb, it's probsbly me.

I'm guessing Froome wins, ahead of Dumoulin and maybe Izagirre. I'd obviously love to see Dennis get a medal and it would be fitting for Cancellara to finish with a win, but I just can't see it happening unfortunately.

The roads are extremely wet, it looks like they're always just braking in the downhill.

Spoiler Garfoot out of the medals, let's go Villumsen! (It's close enough)
