There goes my Dombrowski bet. With Talansky in this break he'll like take over leadership.

Starting to get really excited about Costa. What a kid! It's hard to think he's barely older than me and he's already able to pull this off. This kid will be U25 eligible for many years still. Really excited!

You should, Talansky and TJ pales in comparison!

I totally agree. However I don't want to get too ahead of myself either. Dombrowski also was very promising from a young age and injuries and stuff really slowed him down, so I don't want to get too far ahead.

That being said this kid seems legit. Already will be a stagiare with Etixx at 18, though I'm not sure he'll actually sign at WT contract so young.

Actually already from 01/08, I guess he just rode Utah for Axeon. Is he riding l'Avenir tho? If not, he still has a few years to win and there will be many other races he will be able to ride for Etixx

baseballlover312
That's the thing, he even has a few years for that. Quite astonishing.

IMO there is hardly a better place for a talent than Etixx. Alaphilippe, Vakoc, Kwiatek, Verona... they do quality work over there.

With Pro cycling folding and Amgen stepping up, Tour of Utah will be the only last stage race? Pretty big shame, those american conti races are pretty fun to watch now and then.

Yes, peloton needs someone climbing like Andy in a field of Mochemas and Froomess.

Sweet stage win for Morton. Tsmoha and Aidan to be very happy. Wink

Costa not having enough strength to hold Morton, deserved victory. Talansky with very good cards on his hands now, one of those 3 will win.

What was amazing about today was the fact they just wasn't allowed in the break. They were the 3 strongest on the climb. Distancing riders who were amazing in the Giro like Dombro and Atapuma is really a big feat. Too bad there isn't a ITT in this race, otherwise its legit a perfect route. They have gotten it in Utah!

Costa is like...super-awesome prospect for US cycling, glad he is joining Etixx, as Shonak wrote, they are making great job with talents lately.
I'll be back

Yeah, as long that someone is not an Andy on the TT-bike, or an Andy in the pressroom, or an Andy in attitude...

And doesn't have an older brother to wait for while he could win Le Tour.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Or descending ability
Or riding on the flat
Or ability to handle pressure

The days of pure climbers winning grand tours are over. You need to be a complete rider these days. Look at Froome this year. He dominated the TT's, took time on a descent and made a break in the final 5 k's of a flat stage. Unless a pure climber can put 10 minutes into Froome (or similar rider) in the mountains he's not going to stand a chance. Quintana being a prime example.

Lucky that Costa is a monster in the ITT. He is a savage.

Ringo: Way too premature. It has never been easier to win the Tour as a pure climber due to how they are making their routes. Pre 2008, there were 100 kilometres of more or less flat ITT every year. Quintana can easily win if he just doesn't show up and sucks like 2016. It would have been very interesting if he found his climbing legs from 2015 Tour or just 2013 Tour.

Aru, Quintana and Horner are recent pure climbers who have won a Grand Tour. Landa, Kruiswijk, Chaves(?), Purito came close in various GTs.

Exactly. It has pretty mucn never been easier. Froome was just stronger than everyone else and Quintana was hilariously bad (Contador 2013 and 2015 Tours levels), nothing else can really be concluded.¨

Edit: But the whole discussion is moot since Adrien Costa is very, very allround.

Maybe I should rephrase it to say it's impossible for a pure climber to beat a lesser climber but better all round rider, which I guess is just stating the obvious really Smile

I see your point and agree now I've had a think about it.

I guess I'm referring to a pure climber as someone who can literally only climb, like Schleck and possibly like Mikel Nieve in the current peleton. Someone who could purely climb and couldn't ride a bike in a straight line anywhere else could win in the past.

I'm going to be quiet now because I'm confusing myslef Smile

Also, I notice Waglon is agreeing with a lot of my post's recently. Not sure if he genuinely agrees or is taking the piss Smile I'm assuming the latter.

Kruiswijk is a good time-trialer though.
Also Andy handled the cobbles pretty well in 2010(I know the crash splitted the group)
EDIT:Andy also won LBL,not a thing Quintana or Kruiswijk can do.

I have yet to experience that Wink

Schleck-fan: Yeah, not many GT-winners also have a monument to their name. Andy was one, Nibali and Valverde 2 others. While thpse two are more all round than Andy, I think it goes to show just HOW talented Andy was when he wanted to. Unfortunately L-B-L and TdF were the only two races he cared for.
