All good calls except Turkey???? Driedaagse De Panne - Koksijde will be disappointed, they really wanted to step up as well.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

she lied. every time press asked why she wasnt racing she said she was sick
if she was honest she would explain the situation. whatever else is true one thing is a fact. she is a liar
there is something else that is also suspicious
a year ago when she missed the first test she saw no problem with the process. she was fine with it. a-ok. its only almost a year later when she missed the third test that she suddenly had a problem with the first test. |

10, yes 10!, new WT events for 2017. And all 2017 WT events will be WT through to the end of 2019.
Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (hopefully this means the related womens race will move up as well)
Tour of Qatar (oh yay...)
Abu Dhabi Tour (we knew this was coming)
Omloop (good call!)
Strade Bianche (was only a matter of time!)
Dwards Door (moar cobbles plz)
Tour of Turkey (erm... what?)
Eschborn-Frankfurt (not the Deutschland Tour yet)
AToC (huh, didnn't see that one coming)
RideLondon (ok this was also obvious)
No major date changes either, so that early season is gonna be packed with WT events. Wonder what this will do to the PCT landscape given the huge number of extra wildcard spaces available, especially with additions like Turkey and AToC...
This will really hurt some Continental teams - especially SkyDive and Torku (but the latter won't be missed), who were regulars in Qatar+Dubai and Turkey tours respectively.
Really, Tour of Turkey? I wouldn't pick a race held in an country where the president thinks he's untouchable - that would be a bad PR IMO

Yeah, but you are forgetting that China bought a WorldTour rac, and that didn't really cause any PR-problems.

It's no longer that all WT teams have to participate right?

That was announced but not 100% it was confirmed, looking at the calendar I'd expect it to be the case.
Got to feel for the US Conti squads who count on participating in races like ToC, surely going WT means they will be left out in the cold now.

And let's not forget that the main guy behind the Bahrain team has credible allegations of torture made against him, so I highly doubt the UCI would care about any negative press when it comes to Turkey

Yes AToC never wanted to be WT cause it meant the American teams couldn't get in.
But it's also important for non WT races on the calender that would be dead if WT teams had to ride 2 WT programs. For example Ronde van Belgie, Tour of Norway, Settimana Lombarda or the unfortunately already dead Bayern Rundfahrt.

A whole lot of 2017 hasn't been confirmed yet. Like there was suggestion that because races wouldn't have all WT teams that organisers could invite a couple of domestic teams. This would be a good move for a lot of races, not just AToC, to keep a couple of those CT teams.

Yeah I can see some of the lower tier races disappear if they keep expanding the WT like this.
On WT teams competing in WT races next season
'As of 2017 season, all existing UCI WordTour events will have all UCI WorldTeams participating and for new UCI WorldTour events, participation rules which will ensure that a minimum of 10 UCI WorldTeams take part will be proposed by the UCI for approval at the next meeting of the PCC'

What a fucking joke. Absolute rubbish. Cadel Evans' whatever race isn't even the worst inclusion.
Strade, Omloop, Dwars and Frankfurt are IMO fine. Especially the 2 first ones.
Edit: Why not include some of the fall one days races instead? Milano - Torino is a great race. It will probably ruins the february races in Spain and France.

My assessment of the races:
Very good calls:
Strade and Omloop
Decent inclusions:
Dwars and Frankfurt
Pretty lame:
Qatar, Turkey and Cali
Why on earth:
London
Cookson should be fired ASAP:
Dubai (especially due to its early placing) |

I get it, I know.I'll TRY to explain you guys why it is okay.
1.Tour of Turkey is not a lot worse than races like Abu Dhabi (which i think its better in every category), Frankfurt and Cadel Evans Great Ocean Race...
2.The time. Tour of Turkey is held before Giro, which allows teams to go there and not just Romandie which is only 1 week away.
3.The organization, where the all hotels in 2015 (except 1) had teams were 5*.
4.Politics have nothing to do with cycling.
5.The route, Turkey is a big country, and the terrain suits every kind of stage.
6.UCI likes Turkey, I saw UCI presidents (incl. Cookson) coming to here not the Ardennes, and make some shit speeches that the race is pretty valuable.
7.Tour of Turkey is the representive race for the asia, which doesnt have a lot of race, and i dont really put United Money Emirates to Asia.
well, those look shit, but the truth.

In other news, Dwars door het Hageland will be televised on Friday. We have got a MAN'S RACE on our hands gentlemen. Cobbles, unpaved roads and hills. It really does have Strade Bianche-potential.
The lineup is decent: Boonen, Terpstra, Van Aert, Pozzato, Trentin etc. Etixx will dominate, tho, but I really look forward to watching this one. I must admit that this season, I have grown even more fond of the cobbles. Really quality racing. |

I have to say this news really shocks me, because it wasn't too long ago that Cookson seemed to want to reduce the WT schedule, let alone increase it. Not that I'm mad, but some of those races clearly don't deserve it.
The teams thing seems interesting in concept but it's really just creating another race category that isn't needed. And it's especially going to be weird to see WT teams potentially being forced into riding races they don't want to ride in order to meet the 10 team threshold. How would that work? How will that be decided?
A lot of questions to ask and on pretty short notice. Most of the time there's a year wait in between decisions like this but the 2017 season starts in 5 months.

Yes more autumn races would have been good. Maybe another italian races, it must not be Milano-Torino although it'd a good race.
Strade is an unique race but maybe will be less exciting now. Same goes for Omloop, but Dwars and Omloop are cobbled classics so they are bound to be entertaining.
Tour of Turkey isn't such a bad race but I don't care for it. California could hurt the domestique scene as mentioned, many teams need those events and to compete there. Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Qatar are awful additions and they will fail within a few years when the men behind it are bored and search a new toy..

Some Armitstead insight:
https://inrng.com/...h-cycling/
As ever it's always possible to draw your own conclusions but the fact the appeal was successful on the basis of a retrospective technicality doesn't look good for anyone involved, that much is sure. |
