The first Alps stage is here, and I have to say I like it's not an uphill finish. In the profile of the stage we can see there is no flat terrain for the first 128 kilometres, and that makes the stage interesting and also very tough for the cyclists, now in the end of the second week of Le Tour 2016.
There will be 4 summits before the two hardest ones. Col du Berthiand (1st category, 6 km @ 8,1%), Col du Sappel (2nd category, 8,8 km @ 5,6%), Col de Pisseloup (3rd category, 4,9 km @ 5,8%) and Col de la Rochette (3rd category, 5,1 km @ 5,4%).
After those summits, the riders will face the hardest and longest climb of the day which is Le Grand Colombier, a 12,8 kilometres climb with an average of 6,8% (this average would be bigger if there wasn't a little flat in the middle of the climb). I would say the riders who want to take a big advantage of this stage should try here (in case they hadn't tried before).
The latest climb will start with 23 kilometres to go and it is Lacets du Grand Colombier. This climb is much more constant than Le Grand Colombier and it has kilometres with an average of 9-10% which makes it a very good final climb for this day.
After that, a short and fast descent and 8 flat kilometres until the finish line in Culoz.
***** Breakaway
**** Froome
*** Aru
** Quintana, Yates (can't put it white ), Mollema, Martin
* Everyone I didn't mention
Vincenzo Nibali
It's not being the best Tour de France for Le Squalo dello Stretto, as we haven't seen him too much, but tomorrow it's a day likely for the breakaways and with a finish in flat after descent, I'd say Nibali has many chances to take this win

I have a sneaking suspicion Purito will try something here.

It's going to be a fearsome first hour+. Should get Majka v De Gendt and maybe even more going for KOM points and after a likely hard start it will be interesting to see how much rope the break gets.
If it goes the distance so many are strong and climbing well - De Gendt, Majka, Costa, Cummings, Navarro, Nibali etc. and then some that haven't shown as much yet but seem to be going well such as the likes of Zakarin and Pantano. |

Im gonna be dissapointed if nobody from the top 10 attacks chris froome, before the final climb. Will understand if riders like yates and mollema are more than satisfied with their current placings, but theres a bunch of stars behind who really shouldnt be pleased wirt just a top 10 in TdF.
Could really be a fun race again if the guys would attack team sky befor the final /second final climb.

They dry not, everyone is afraid of Froome and his team.
Froome should just stay out of the crash and injuries, so he wins TDF easily the next several years. |

Even though the the windy week could have taken it's toll on lightweight climbers, I still believe that this is the stage to attack as it's up and down profile isn't really suited for constant pace and total control. I just hope that riders aren't scared of those two 10 km flat parts after last two climbs. |

Cummings could win depending on how Le Grand Colombier is raced. Otherwise, Nibbles is my favorite for the stage. Dumoulin could get number three by going solo and TTing it, basically what Cummings would do. I'd like to say Bennett bit the descent and flat finish isn't quite for him. Down in the GC, I'm predicting little change, unfortunately.

Quintana has been totally blown in 4 days in cross winds.
But Mollema looks like good bet. Riders like Styuven, Rast, Cancellara have kept Mollema very safe in cross winds. I remember Cancellara himself dropping almost entire field except 30 or so riders for Chris Horner back at Vuela 2013 on penultimate climb. But Sky are different beast altogether. Stetina, Zubeldia, Schleck are not of much match either. Mollema will have to be very strong and smart to win. I do not think he is there yet, but I could be wrong. |

What about Porte?
He has to attack for the podium, is a good rouleur which should help him in the flat part. On the other hand it's a good stage for him to lose the annual 10 minutes.
O don't believe in attacks of pure climbers, too much flat for them. |

I keep thinking Majka breakaway or Froome takes it today. Porte seems strong, but I feel like he's stuck in this constant problem of being too strong to be allowed in a break, and too weak to beat Froome on the climbs. Nibali looks off form to me (as does Quintana), but he may surprise. Mollema/Yates are good outsiders, but more likely they just lose ~1 minute than win/lose the stage to any significant degree.

I could easily see Froome attack, also use his incredible power upwards/flad and awesome skills on descent. Unless that Sky has calculated Froome have enough time to win the race now and choose the defensive tactics.

I can see Quintana throwing some nice show attacks just so his fans can get excited, no time gains to be made from anyone notable as they are sooo negative.
Quintana just saving himself for a big push for 2nd place on stage 20 xD
Needs to go stay in Colombia for another half year because his dope sure aint working
