I think that is more to do withe the talent that has come through. It isn't just two riders anymore like it was Contador and Andy Schleck.
It might be a factor but I just think he changed after the ban and the only year he showed glimpses of that old form was in 2014, remember Verbier in 2009 and compare that to the Contador post 2011 Giro. Simply not that same rider
