He's taking out 30 seconds on Valverde one of the best descenders in the peloton, that's some serious training

Sure. It's Sky. They probably spend hours in finding a perfect way to pin the starting numbers to the jersey in the most aerodynamic way. They take it all very seriously. wouldn't be strange, if they would have the same seriousness in downhill training.
