Laporte winning in a sprint would be a meh for me. The biggest riders should win the biggest stages, thats how I get the most satisfaction and I know Im pretty alone on that one.
Similarly, its sickening to see big mountain stage after mountain stage just to be given up by the peloton to a lesser rider/riders. Again, I'd imagine Im in the minority here, but Patrick Konrad, Winner Anacona, Geschke etc. winning on Ventoux, Emosson or in Morzine just isn't right for me. Doesn't do the trick. I wanna see Quintana, Froome or whoever to put in a devastating attack and grab the stage.

I don't mind an outsider putting in a great ride and earning a victory that is usually above his means. But I do dislike greatly on mountain stages when the peloton just let's the break win the stage and doesn't even try. I hate that so much. I totally get you there.

I somehow agree with Riis as well. I hate to see to many stages given away by the Peloton, but for me it's mostly, because I want to see guys I like and support winning. So when there's a flat stage, I surely don't want the break to succeed, when Cav and Kittel are in the Peloton. Same on hilly stages for Sagan, Alaphillippe, Gilbert, Stybar, etc. and on Mountain stages for Froome, Porte, etc.

Maybe it's because I'm german and I don't have a sense of humor, or it's because english isn't my native language, but what do you mean?

Rises to the finish tomorrow (see linked Strava segment) = anyone on the front before the final 150m is likely to die out there. If you can bear the video Paul gives you the benefit of his experience too...

For me, it's a break surprise up Ventoux vs an outsider being stronger. Though I must say I don't mind a break, and usually cheer for them if they've earned it. Like Jack Bauer 2014, I may be nationalistic but who honestly wanted him to fail?

The Italian sprinters, Cipollini and Petacchi, abandoning.... haha, sitting here with a big smile on my face. So typical of those 2, especially Cipo, altho I never really experienced him: P

Wow. Was it raining that much? How sunny was Italy this year, more than usual? If I remember correctly, the hilariously bad Tour 2004 featured 10 flat stages or so in the start. Couldn't they at least just finish those and abandon in the Pyrenees?

I jokingly think it's backward thinking only wanting to see the big names win

I enjoy good racing, if that means a break is let go to contest the stage between themselves can be very good racing, the constantly attack eachother and try and play mind games. Or if a lower tier sprinter can beat the big names/trains and take an upset win is just great to watch. Sometimes the fight for the stage by the big names and teams can be great to watch but I find that a fight for the stage win by the big GC guys can really lack action as they just look at eachother being to concerned about making a mistake and losing time. I enjoy the unpredictable side of cycling

I just want to see my favourite riders to win. And if they're a favourite for the stage win, I will not cheer for a breakaway.

Nope I'm 100% with you!! I wish the peloton would wind the breaks back in before the big climbs or at least half way through so that the favourites get more stage wins! Just my (or our!) 2 cents on the matter!

Well on the big mountain stages, you can argue that the break deserves it more, given they have ridden the entire stage faster than the peloton, before having a sometimes much exciting finish to the stage than the GC contenders can offer, plus a stage win won't mean that much in comparison to their other achievements if Froome, Contador, Quintana, etc. win a stage (and usually they manage a couple of the mountain stages during the race anyway), but for some cyclists in the break, who rarely take a pro victory, it'll mean the world to them, hard not to support that.

As in Laporte's case, him winning wouldn't be the peloton giving up, not caring about or misjudging the break, it would be a third teir sprinter pulling out an amazing performance against the top sprinters, even if you were a particularly big fan of one of the main sprinters, I'd imagine a third tier sprinter such as Laporte somehow getting a victory would be the next best thing behind your preferred rider winning.

Greipel-Cavendish-Sagan-Coquard is my four guys for today, i think Kittel wont win or even podium, he was not so convincing on 1st stage and that one suited him the most.
I'll be back

Sorry, should have said it better. Agree mostly with strydz and trek, but f.e. wasn't happy with Sky tactics last year when it was who from the break would win, not if.

If Paul's right, Cav's got this. Besides, he won on what was a far harder drag to Cap Frehel in 11'.

Tommekeeeee! Now having actually seen that last kilometer I think Greipel has an edge here. Kittel will be there though it's not like he can not deal with any positive percentage on the road (Dubai Tour this year)
