[PT] Team I-Gen - Festina (2016)
SotD
i558.photobucket.com/albums/ss29/SotD_Festina/I-Gen%20-%20Festina/sotd%20hq_zpsxdoqqjda.png

Team I-Gen - Festina is a newly formed setup based around the 2015 Pro Tour champions Festina-Canal+. The team was previously a French-Greek setup, which has now been altered into a Slovenian team with focus on domestique riders aswell as keeping the Greek core - combined with chasing the best possible result they can get. Simon Spilak is the team leader, and the mastodont of the setup. The transition of the team is part of a three year setup, where the French numbers should be brought down, and the Slovenian numbers up - To atleast 5, preferably 7-8.

Thanks mate Smile - In terms of pointscoring I guess it is possible to do better, but I can't believe we are capable to do better, though Smile

I think it will be a struggle to just keep our team basically the same, even when selling Ricco. I really do hope that it is possible though, as it would feel really pointless to spend so much time building for the future, if I couldn't even have the fully developped team for just one season.

I hope we can fight for a top 5 PT this season, but all will come down to what kinda team I can put together after renewals.

Good luck for 2016 mate and especially for renewals. As you said that is where you will have to use some of your managing magic to hold onto PT winning potential squad. Looking forward to some possible Pluchkin-Spilak matchups. Smile

Thanks a lot! Yeah, it will be somewhat of a struggle I reckon. Hopefully some of the talents will be good to me. Spilak and Pluchkin will definately go head-to-head next season. I suspect I will be challenging for the Tour de France with both Spilak and Lecuisinier next season, although it will be down to the race calender Smile

Thanks a lot mate Smile

I would like it if I could keep the team, but I need to let Ricco go I think Smile

Canal+ folds as sponsor - The end for Festina?

The recent years growth of Festina-Canal+ could come to a sudden halt, as the major money man for the sponsors Canal+ has decided to stop injecting in the team, as a direct consequense of "ridiculous" wage demands from riders - Especially french riders.

A spokesman for Canal+ said the following

As a sponsor of a respectable team that have been influencing a huge boost in talented riders in France we simply can not live with the fact that our own riders decides to piss all over us. Wage demands of young riders, that are yet to show their talent on the roads, have sky rocketed this off season, and we are simply not going to put up with those ridiculous demands. Simple as that.

We feel duped by the riders and their agents, and our dream of creating a team around the large boost of talents we decided to go for "back then" has been destroyed. The fact that we are not even able to sustain a similar team to last season, after parting with Riccardo, has made us fold. We are no longer interested in supporting french cycling, and as a direct consequence we have withdrawn every single euro put into the team. We have a get away clause in our contract with Festina, and we have decided to use it!

What the consequences of these quotes and decisions will be are yet to be discovered, but pundits speculate that this will also mean the disband of the entire Festina setup. The Festina company have already announced that they are not capable of lifting the burden, and they are considering their options, but that they are likely to fold their sponsorships aswell and declaring the subsidiary company "Festina sponsorships Co." as bankrupt, meaning that they will no longer be sponsoring the team either.

Several medias are speculating whether or not this will be the end for the team, who won the Pro Tour rankings as a team last season.

Sad news for french cycling, we will closely monitor next development in this critical situation surrounding one of our greatest rivals and defending PT champion. We can only agree that young cyclists seem more greedy every year, probably pushed by their agents.

Shame yours and Alak's talents seemed to have upped their demands this year. Mine have been ok actually after being horrible last season, guess you guys just got the short straw in terms of the random element of renewals.

Hopefully the team recovers though and you are able to continue fighting at the top of the PT. We're looking forward to racing with Festina for the first time on a regular basis along with all the other top PT teams.

I dont think they were the only ones with ridiculous wage demands of talents. Wink I had riders asking for 100-300k more than what well established riders of the same talent make which is pretty crazy.

Yeah I suspect riders like Kinoshita, Kwok and Itami and possibly Hiratsuka, Hayakawa and Iino could have asked for a fair bit more than they are worth.

Can't see what the problem should be. I wasn't been made aware of renewals changes that made my talents go fuckhold. So if I can't make a role play change before the database is even fully developped then I guess I'm not wanted in the game.

Orange - KLM is popping the corks on the champagne after hearing today's news.

(*The team hasn't renewed any of its own riders so far, though, so it's likely they'll get depressed soon enough)
