News in June
Waghlon
It's now June the 1st in Central Europe. Central is the part of Europe with Jens Voigt in it, which is important.

Any news?

I find Waghlon apperantly caring about opening the news in threads newsworthy, didn't think he would go so low.

This is bullshit, absolutely:

Nibali not stopping after Kruijswijk crashed was, in my eyes, out of order. I read somewhere that he was already planning to attack on the descent, but either way, you respect the race leader, and he didn’t. If it hadn’t been for Kruijswijk’s crash Nibali never would have won. It’s not just fair to say that, it’s downright true.

In an ideal world it would have been great for teams to have banded together and stopped Nibali from taking the win, but this isn’t an ideal world, and teams or even riders working together for the “greater good” doesn’t happen very often. And that’s not just in a race-winning situation, but with regards to how the whole infrastructure and safety of our sport is set up.

TSP getting away with this oh-lets-criticise-a-rider-just-for-the-sake-of-it more and more often. It's hard to stand him/them lately, especially if they then shy away from expanding on what they mean, leaving people in doubt as to whether they are making things up or being serious.

I just read it and I honestly stopped when I got to that point, its complete bullshit. The dude who writes these (I haven't read much) always comes across as a big douchebag.

Completely agree with matt here. What was at first the very interesting and thought through insight into world of professonal cycling now looks like empty babble of turned down person. He (or they) should just stop...that part mentioned here is utter shite.
I'll be back

Did Nibali win because Kruijswijk crashed? Yes. Should have he stopped? No.

The secret pro's whining reminds me of Andy Schleck.

The crash was entirely Kruijswijk's own fault so why shouldn't the other riders have been allowed to attack? It's a race. Crashes and mechanical issues are racing incidents. Why does everyone have to stop racing if the leader crashes?

If the leader is knocked of by a vehicle or a fan then fair enough. That isn't a racing incident. Otherwise the racing should just continue.

The biggest problem for me is what's considered an attack. Nibali rode a pretty standard descent for him, I don't think the speed of it would have changed whether Kruiswijk had crushed or not. And to be honest I don't think Nibali thought that much of Kruiswijk at the moment as much as about Valverde and that podium place.

I know the Ghostwriters to these pieces and they aren't douchebags thats for sure, the Pro's that they talk to so they can compile an article on the other hand are most likley Douchebags Wink

The quality of TSP artcles are slipping but thats not a surprise as we are well used to the content so interests levels are dropping, the reasons for the more black and white way the articles are written is because the site now being more comercial they need click bait type of content to draw traffic. The quality of the site as a whole has dropped as it's grown bigger which is a pity as it used to be a good cycling site.

The or those people writing "The Secret Pro" really has it out of Nibali. The second they get a shot at trashing him they pick it up.

So when you guys don't agree with the secret pro he's an idiot all of a sudden? Whether or not you agree with him, it doesn't warrant these responses just because you don't agree with someone...

Yes, having one opinion can make you an idiot.

Are you well rounded citizen that supports KKK? You're an idiot.
Are you well rounded citizen that supports Nazis? You're an idiot.
Do you think rider skills should play no part in races? You're an idiot.

If this was Anglo-Saxon on Sky/Orica he would have said nothing at all

Yeah Alakagom, way to overexaggerate. I think you know what I mean. I dont like it when people immediately call someone an idiot just because they don't agree with them.

Don't think it's a sudden occurrence; the Secret Pros (no way it's just one rider) have been spouting bullshit for quite a long time. Not sure it's comparable to the KKK but there we go. Pfft

I don't think I ever called the piece idiotic or the writers idiots but the quality of the articles have slipped, the first year contained some interesting stuff but every year after has become more bitching and moaning in style which is kind of pointless. We are not getting any real insights into the inner working of the pro peloton from the ghostwriters nor the multiple pro riders they use for each article, it's mostly petty whining which if people want to read then it's easily found on 99.9% of Internet forums Wink

Today I read in Zeit online that a dutch doctor is currently running an experiment to find out the performance impact of EPO. His thesis is that the effect is exaggereted, and it's more a case of bad physicians prescribing stuff to cyclists for cash eg.
To prove his tehsis they are running two cyclist groups with trained, but not professional bike riders; one of them gets EPO, one a Placebo - and they make a bike race up Mont Ventoux. It's almost 50 cyclists so quite a small sample but given its believed effects (up to 10% performance increase) there should be a clear indication anyway of EPO, even if some bad-responders are in the EPO group.

“I believe there is a clear need for high-quality research to investigate the effects of supposedly enhancing drugs in sport. If, as is expected, many substances in current use are found to be ineffective it will help keep our athletes safe and improve confidence in sporting results,” says Cohen.

Skujins doing a Sagan and going for Olympic MTB - European Marathon champs are in his home town in Latvia over the weekend so he's there. Should be interesting.
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Is it just one stage?

If you want to see EPO working they should race flat out for 200km at their max for 2 weeks in a row, and then take EPO.

One stage shouldn't matter much at all.
