I wouldn't get ahead of yourself. It's easy to forget that Chaves is actually older than Quintana, so he doesn't necessarily have more room to progress than Nairo would.
He actually does, since his progress was halted by a severe injury. He's now just on his way up
While thats true, Quintana is probably the best climber in the peloton right now. This year he has won Romandie and Catalunya and podiumed in Pais Vasco while sick. He has out climbed Froome in the last week 2 years in a row in TdF and he even finished ahead of Chaves en last year's Vuelta after he lost 4 minutes in Andorra after being terribly sick (he was dropped the day before on a flat day), the Vuelta was Chaves' big goal that season. Quintana was obviously much worse than we are accustomed to seeing him.
Chaves is the more explosive rider, he has a good sprint, a nice acceleration, but will never be the GT-rider and pure climber, the diesel, of Quintana. He can win the Vuelta, the Giro, but I very much doubt he will win the Tour one day.
And while its true that Chaves possibly has more room for improvement (its vague to discuss something like this when he really dont know), lets not forget that Quintana has taken one step up from 2015 and has been brilliant on the few MTFs this year.
Like Quintana, unless that Froome crashes...
And Chaves can win if those who are better than him crashes, like Nibali in 2014.

Today will be a very interesting stage for sure; despite all the action yesterday we still don't really know who is going to win although there looked three stronger than the rest, but we should have a much clearer picture after watching everyone climb up a serious climb by themselves.
My prediction for the stage:
1. Nibali
2. Zakarin
3. Kruijswijk
4. Majka
5. Valverde
6. Chaves
7. Pozzovivo
8. Fuglsang
9. Urán
10. Pirazzi
with Amador not too far behind ofc
Happy to be proven wrong about Chaves though, hope he does really well as I'm rooting for him, but I'm just not confident he's particularly suited to a steady grind like this. Nibali for me still has to be the favourite, he recovered impressively well yesterday after looking like he was cooked like Valverde to lose less than 40 seconds.

If Froome not crashes and Contadope not be taken for doping, then we can good
It wouldn't be RCS and Giro d'Italia if there wern't some WTFs.. Horses running on street & Lampre staff throw water at them to scare them off. Gotta love Italy.

It's incredible tho. Chaves coming back from that almost career ending crash.
Kruijswijk coming back after a leg artery problem which also could have cost him his career. Because there are other riders who, even with surgery, never got back to their old level.

Gesink being a very notable example of a rider not returning to his old level. He looked ready to become one of the best climbers in the world in 2008/09. Broke his leg, personal problems and even trouble with his heart. The guy has been through a lot so I was happy during last year's TdF to see him somewhat back.
Poels is another rider who is stronger than ever, coming back from a almost career ending crash. It took him a few years, same with Kruijswijk and Chaves.
Does Pirazzi go for GC this year? Liked it more when he was agressive and contested for KoM and stages, instead of 'doing nothing' and salvage a top 12-15th place in GC

Pirazzi was in the stage hunt mode once but he got badly outperformed by a young teammate Ciccone. Perhaps he is a bit embarrassed now to show up

If one crashes and gets injured or abandons the bet is invalid.
Duration of the losers avatar:From the end of Tour to the start of the Vuelta.
Okay?
And there's no way we'll have almost a minute separating the top 5. Time gaps won't be significant.
Agree with this, the climb isn't steep enough for massive time gaps between the GC guys

Valv has said that he expects actually quite some time gaps in a vid on movistar fb page. Anyway, looking forward to it. I still hope BalaRosa comes true, a podium will be nice.
Chaves is a great climber and he'll improve much more. I don't think he'll reach Quintana level any time soon and it probably will never happen but he has much more panache, an amazing kick, and he is willing to risk more I reckon, so that makes him the more exciting rider easily.
