Compared to the power and acceleration both Greipel and Kittel showed
the other so called sprinters like Viviani, Demare, Modolo and the likes is just plain second rate.
Funky time gaps. Too bad Orica focused so much on their young 2nd rate sprinter instead of getting Chaves over the line save and sound.
Ewan is very promising and might be the fastest sprinter in a few years but now he's no match for Greipel or Kittel or Cav. So great job by Orica. |

We don't know why the split happened but I highly doubt Orica left Chaves by himself, the only riders I spotted working for Ewan were Hepburn and Mezgec

Surely Nizzolo has to win one of these sprints one day
same was said about Rojas few years back. I don't see it happening.

Pretty awesome power from Greipel there after he got a bit swamped just as the sprint started. I can see what Lotto were trying to do, get position at the very front before the technical run-in and then use that positioning to launch him despite burning up most of their men, but they went for it a little too early imo, but they were saved by the power of the 'Rostock Gorilla' as Rob Hatch likes to call him (for me this just conjures up an image of a giant ape running through a pretty Baltic port beating its chest vociferously, which is a rather big leap from the picture I get of Greipel as a person)
Anyway sterrato tomorrow. I feel like it's a stage that a Nibbles in top shape would attack with gusto, so we'll have to see what happens there. The climb isn't too difficult but it is two-stepped with a flat bit on sterrato in the middle, the best place to attack is probably at the steep section just at the start of the sterrato and then try and diesel it up the rest of the way. Additionally, the final kilometre resembles that of the finish at Benevento, except with an initially steeper pitch and a generally higher gradient. Hoping to see a good stage.

Has Dumoulin ever raced on the gravel? Not doubting him just curious, he's built to do well on the gravel so it will be interesting to see how he goes. Expecting Astana to really attack this stage and if Nibali can get a gap they won't catch him on the descent.
For the stage Cancellara might be in with a shot, spotted him close to the front of the peloton for the first time this giro yesterday so he must be getting stronger, Ulissi, Brambilla, Battaglin and Colbrelli all have to be in with a chance

I believe he has, despite my enormous headache I recall him saying he likes the gravel roads in Strade, all it takes is 5 seconds on PCS. |

I doubt that Cancellara will try something today seeing that the Time trial is tomorrow and a fresh Cancellara is top favorite then. Also this hill could be too long for him. |

He's again at the front of the peloton today along with Bobridge who appears to be looking after him so we shall see, I'm not saying he will go for it but he is certainly feeling better
Edit: Okay just heard Cancellara say he won't ride hard today so there goes that theory
