Fair enough.

I knew it would get a log of flag. When you are suggesting something new in the world of cycling, more than not, people don't agree. Its a traditionalist world. But I think it would make the product better.

It is not about tradition, but about balance. If you don't fancy flat stages there are plenty of other races you could watch. A Grand Tour invites all different kind of riders to ride, hence the name "Grand".

A "Grand" Tour without the likes of Sagan, Cavendish, Greipel, Kittel and similar types would not be Grand at all. It Would just be a Tour. Tour de Climbers. 21 days of riders finding hilly stages and TTs boring, just awaiting the mountains. Then we can take out the TTs because they are boring. Hell, let's just have 21 days strolling around the pyrenees. To be honest, that would kill the mood, and riders would ride passively. We need the balance to create a great race.

The point with moving abroad is clearly financial, but have a lot of secondary benefits aswell, most importantly, it spreads knowledge and interest of the sport to other countries.

You guys are still not really grasping what I am trying to say it seems

I dont want to go over and over it again, but I think the pure sprinters should work for their victories, but obviously, you also need a few completely flat stages where the result of a bunch sprint is inevitable - 3 or 4. Problem is with those, the result is a given I find it it extremely boring. No where have I said like you and Waghlon suggest that we completely abandon those flat stages. I just say, make them fewer and replace them with hillier stages with a hill or a few in the finale to make for an more unpredictable final. Thats all. Literally, all.

Yeah. And like I say, it's all about balance. Whether you have 0 or 3 sprint stages out of 21 doesn't matter. The best sprinters don't want to waste 21 days of top level on 3 stages, with no possibility to win the sprinters jersey - Hence the balance take on your "suggestion".

It's not about me not understanding what you say, but rather that you don't really want to understand why it's a shit idea.

Ok.

So, throwing a hill in on 3-4 stages that previously would have been completely flat is shitty? Fine you disagree, but I would appreciate if you refrain from calling an idea shitty because it doesnt float your boat. Smile

just stop trolling..Smile

Did you read the post? I said I would very much like to reduce PURE bunch sprints to 3-4, not remove the aspect all together.

In TDF, we have already seen reduced numbers of pure bunch sprints. And the Vuelta and Giro has never had a similiar emphasis on having pure bunch sprints.

Ahem, whats your point? I even noted in my post that we luckily are over the 9 days of flat and have been including small hills, cobbles etc. Again, did you read it? Seems like you didn't and just want to disagree.

There are 7 pure bunch sprints. I think 3-4 is better. Really nothing more to it, Waggy. Smile

Why do you keep saying that there are 7 pure sprint stages in this years Giro? There are 4 pure bunch sprint stages with the other 3 I'm assuming you class as pure sprint stages really aren't that, they all have opportunities for breakaway/attackers to get away or if raced hard to drop the out and out sprinters

There is at least 6, I'll give you that. Stage 2, 3, 7, 12, 17, 21. Can you tell me those of those which aren't then?

Okay closer look at it and I'll say 5 sprint stages but I think a break can survive stage 7 especially if the days leading up to it take a sprinter or 2 out of the race or some of the Doms

I can't believe how you wouldn't classify stage 7 as a pure sprinters stage, but ok.

I call it shitty because it is. You find flat stages boring. That was your main argumentative. Whether it has a small hill in the middle or not doesn't make any difference - espacially not when looking at those stages you just highlighted as being "pancake flat".

You need to determine what you really mean, otherwise it is impossible to discuss anything.

Having 3 stages suited for Kittel, Greipel and Cavendish would mean one thing: None of them would show up. Simple as that. And normally you won't find more than 3 stages - perhaps 4 - where there are no troubles in anyway. Either there are hills, cobbles or potentially echelons involved if there are more than 4 flat stages.

But it simply needs to be balanced, otherwise the Tour isn't "Grand". It's quite simple. And I think you overestimate your idea as being unique and totally discount the fact that those persons involved in designing the route are experts in making the best possible riders participate - And thus making most people follow the race.
