UEFA Champions League 2015/2016

I promised myself not to comment on this ... damn ....

So what about that best team in the world?

It still is the best team in the world. They had three bad weeks after about a hundred good ones. That happens. If they bounce back, they'll still win the double in the best league in the world. And if you think that's a disappointment, that should tell you more about their class than I ever could.

Ahh, was waiting for you mate. Grin

Best league in the world? No way...there are just three teams in that league for ages, rest is total crap. Premier league is best league by far and most competitive.

When you have attack woth of 200 millions of euros (paid for by neverending debt) and you are not able to reach semifinals of CL, that is fail, believe it or not.
I'll be back

Please don´t tell that the Premier League should be the best league in the world...year by year you see how well the British teams do in the european Cups (a highlight was last year)

for the first 8 teams La Liga is far better, for the second part of the table the Bundesliga...sometimes I feel like the Premier League is so incompetitive because they feel like the european gods of football...

Show me one "competitive" club of the PL that´s not in debts!

And this is why I didn't want to post Grin

But okay, I'll take the bait:

I can't comprehend how people still say the PL is the best league. Nothing, literally nothing suggests that. Most contended? Probably. Best? What makes you think that? Seriously, what?

In all international competitions, Spanish teams are superior, in numbers and in results. Six CL semifinalists and two winners in the past three years versus two and zero. Bilbao and Sevilla regularly prove their class in the EL, Villareal now as well.

The PD doesn't have three teams at the top because the rest of the league is so bad, but because those three teams are able to constantly perform at the highest level. Something Premier League teams obviously can't.

But sure, English teams don't care about the European competitions because that's not where the money is, blah blah. That's a bullshit argument. Ask Eden Hazard what's more valuable, another PL title, or the CL. Or Wayne Rooney. Or David Silva.

Let alone what Leicester is doing. Is it really an indication of quality that a team with Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez as their top stars (with all due respect to their performances) can pretty comfortably win the league? Wouldn't you mock the hell out of Barca and Real for being terrible if Levante was leading the PD with 7 points? And wouldn't you be right in doing so?

As for Barca, don't get me wrong, I sure as hell am disappointed, so is everyone involved with the club. Not only because we got eliminated, but also because of the way we played. But looking at the last three years and the past few months, I am still proud of the team and I know what they're capable of, regardless of two matches against a very strong opponent.

And I'm already angry that I've let you provoke me to responding, but evidently I don't know any better than to engage in useless internet discussions Pfft

Leagues go up and down. Spain is dominating now like the English League did in the 70's and early 2000's and Italian teams did in late 80's/early 90's. All leagues have a different style and there is no definite best league. It depends on what you were brought up on, like Chocolate Smile

Premier league is a joke. A mediocre team as Leicester have it too easy in Premier league. 7 points to 2, 13 points to 3.

You could say the same about the Bundesliga, though. Sometimes, "mediocre" Teams play good and have luck.

No, Bayern Munich is one of world`s best team and only Spanish team would match them over a whole season. Leicester would be a bottom team in spain.

For once I'm afraid I have to agree with Arberg Grin

Though I don't know too much about football, I think PL is way overrated and filled with dirty money, too.
Spanish competition seems stronger, or at least the top is stronger. Maybe PL is a bit more evened out.
Bundesliga I'm not sure. Some amazing teams but not sure if they're all high quality.

Dutch Eredivisie has lost its touch completely I believe, while Belgian Pro League is a joke, but getting a bit better slowly.
French has 1 or 2 top clubs, I think. The rest not so much.
Italy is sometimes a bit underrated, I think, I believe they have one of the finest leagues, but not the most spectacular teams.

Bundesliga just has Bayern and Dortmund, Wolfsburg maybe. Berlin had a lucky season, which proves my point. Our 2nd league is quite good, at least.

Btw: Since Klopp has left, Dortmund Matches Bayern easily.

In Germany and Spain there are 4-5 teams each. The rest are just filling in spaces. In the Premier League there are 20 teams where everybody can beat anybody and 7 of these fight for 4 spots(Chelsea, Manchester City and United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and the newest-Leicester.) Each of these teams would be fighting for Europe and I mean Champions League in any other league. The problem there is that there is so much money that even a team that had narrowly escaped relegation like Leicester with a proper board can rise up to fight for a top 4 spot, and can buy top players from other leagues. This super-competitiveness is ruining their chances in Europe and we see the present-day situation. On the other hand clubs like Real and Barca are literary controlling the Spanish federation and also have strong positions in UEFA that allow them to be like 500 million Euros in debt. But nobody bats an eye of course.

With the results as they are now, there will have been 9 different teams filling the CL and EL places in Germany over the past three years (13/14, 14/15, 15/16), 9 in Spain, 9 in England.

While this is highly speculative, I don't think so at all. Chelsea and City are the only ones who'd be certain contenders for CL places in Spain and Germany.

Please elaborate. Being able to buy better players from other leagues lowers your chances when competing with clubs from those leagues?

Nobody who knows what FFP is about bats an eye. FFP isn't about limiting spending, it's about ensuring financial stability. It's not about being in debt, it's about being able to pay them back. And Real and Barca have an enormous amount of capital and cash flow. They won't run into any difficulty to pay salaries, or something similar.

Again: I don't contest that the PL is a very attractive league. The fact that anyone can beat anyone is fantastic, I love what Leicester is doing at the moment.

But a league is balanced either because all teams are similarly good, or similarly mediocre/bad. Looking at a league alone, that's hard to tell. Sure, you can look at the football they play, but you only play as well as your opponent allows you to, which means that you can't say if an English team would play as well in Spain, and vice versa.

Which leaves the international competitions to compare them.

Not that they were denied a penalty in the last minute in the return match

Edit says also that suspense =/ class

Leicester winning the league can't be a bad thing. Equally, the Premier League can't be the best league in the world. However, there is one major difference between Spain and England which means that Leicester can never be bottom of La Liga- the equal distrubution of TV money. The Levante analogy by Cunego is redundant because Levante have never and will never have close to the money Real and Barca have- because La Liga won't let them.
The Premier League has stupid amounts of money. They aren't the best league in terms of quality, either.
But you can't deny they've used their powers for good.

Yeah of course, let's not count the penalty Atletico were denied in the first half, as well as the possible 2 red cards to Suarez and Iniesta, or the complete and absolute bullshit that the first match was Pfft

True. Equal distribution is a massive advantage for the PL. However, if you look at absolute numbers, Barca has spent a little over 300 million more than Levante in transfers over the last three years, ManUnited has spent close to 350 million more than Leicester. One might argue that Levante is closer to Barca than Leicester to United Pfft (I know, there are a few flaws in this argumentation, but hey, it's numbers! They never lie, do they?)

The Premier League has stupid amounts of money. They aren't the best league in terms of quality, either.

Who're they? And what is good? If United has spent 100 millions more than Barca in transfers over the past three years (City 90M more, Chelsea 40M more), and then you compare their achievements, I sure as hell can deny that it was money well spent Pfft Unless I misunderstood you. If you meant Leicester, then yes, they did really well.

weirdskyfan64
They= PL.
Good= the fact that, as you alluded to, they've used equal distribution.

Really hope it's Atleti-Bayern in the semis. Would love to see that match-up.
