Sagan didn't lose. Van Avermaet just won more Wink

2nd is first loser Smile

There's more to winning than crossing the finish line first.

Sagan doesn't work: he gets a top 5 in Tirreno-Adriatico. Probably doesn't win the stage either because peloton catches them.
Sagan works: loses the sprint for the win of the day but gets in the position to win Tirreno. Will almost definitely end on Tirreno podium. Also secured his points jersey.

Not saying he rode a perfect ride, but given the circumstances, I think he did pretty well Smile And Van Avermaet beat him before in a sprint, I thought it was quite a punchy sprint from Sagan after all those efforts. But Van Avermaet had an answer to it.

But GVA didn't work, won the stage and took the overall lead.

I just think that Sagen could be a little smarter sometimes. Everything you said is true, but it was also true for GVA. The difference is GVA used his tactical knowledge to end up winning everything while Sagen had another 2nd place.

Ooops Smile

I think I spelt it wrong the first time and it's saved in my spell checker now?

I have been writing Sagan (I Think)

Slovenia/Slovakia is an easy mistake to make. They have practically the same bloody flag for a start Smile

I'll go back to cycling school Smile Time for me to write SAGAN over and over again on a blackboard.

Hopefully Brambilla can maintain a top 10 spot today, although I doubt it.

Johan le Bon with fastest time so far. Better than both Kiryienka and Martin.

Just had to be sure, I think it will be hard for Sagan or Stybar to take the jersey then. GVA is a good short time trialer.

Exact same TT last year. It will be super hard to beat GVA today.

Possibly it's the wind that's changed. Can't confirm (yet) though.

I actually think it's just that Tony is no longer the great timetrialist he once was and Kiri much prefers longer timetrials.

Plus le Bon in good form cause someone had to power FDJ to a great TTT.

Good argument.
Martin-situation has become a bit sad, I think. Used to be the ultimate time trialer but it didn't last as long as I thought it would and it just doesn't seem to work anymore.
Might explain why he's going for the cobbled classics. Don't think it'll turn into real results, though. He could prove me wrong, but I'm afraid it's not going to happen.

I think much like with Cavendish, Tony Martin might have his last years in cycling, not winning as much as he is used to, or at least not winning the big stuff like he used to.

Time will tell Smile

Shit Cancellara Grin

Does he have power for the rest.

Indeed.
It's just that when he took his first WC ITT title and Cancellara looked weaker in time trials, I thought the Tony Martin reign had finally begun.
When Wiggins took the gold in the WC two years ago, it was a complete surprise to me. But looking back, that was actually the end of Martin's reign as TT master. Didn't last as long as I thought it would Smile

Agree, the last two years have been "dire" for Martin compared to how incredible he was doing his 3 WC years. Question is who will take the flame, or will we have different winners for the next 4-5 years. (Keep in mind it isn't exactly normal to have a guy win 3-4 times in a row Grin )

Spilak23
that's pretty good

Hats of to Cancellara, that was just beastly Pfft
