The season opening is here!
After several warm up stage races in middle east and southern Europe it's time for real racing. Opening with Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on saturday.
Bombekeberg replaced Molenberg as the final climb of the race 30 from the finish as the latter is under roadworks. Bombekeberg is not as steep as Molenberg and this change should suit the likes of Alexander Kristoff for the win.
Favourites:
*****
Alexander Kristoff
Greg Van Avermaet
****
Tom Boonen
Peter Sagan
Niki Terpstra
Philippe Gilbert
***
Tiesj Benoot
Jempy Drucker
Sylvain Chavanel
Jurgen Roelandts
**
Stijn Vandenbergh
Tony Martin
Jens Debusschere
Dries Devenyns
Daniele Bennati
Jens Keukeleire
Moreno Hofland
Edward Theuns
Jasper Stuyven
Luke Rowe
Elia Viviani
Arnaud Demare
*
Preben Van Hecke
Gerald Ciolek
Daniel Oss
Tom Van Asbroek
Michael Van Staeyen
A bit disappointing not to see Team Dimension Data at the start since EBH is in smoking hot form. Kristoff and GVA are favourites form wise. Both looked very good in middle east races. Should be a fun saturday. |

Is Stannard injured or something? Really odd not to see him here.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Stannard wants to be stronger in the Flandres week. Hence he changed his schedule a bit. Might also come due to the absence in Qatar this year.

Omloop has been one of the best races in recent years, of course also thanks to Stannard's two great wins.
Unbelieveable actually but GVA still hasn't scored a big flandriennes classics win in the classics season, might as well start at Omloop. Personally I would prefer a Lotto Soudal win tho, preferably through some sweet tag-team action of Benoot and Roelandts.
Classic debut for Tony Martin going to be fairly interesting to see.
Sad face that Roma Maxima is out of the calendar again and possibly for good by now. ;(

I´m putting my bets on one for Kristoff and one for Vandenbergh/Martin
interesting that Shonak is going for Benoot/Roelandts of Lotto-Soudal, I´m with Debusschere there....
Would love to see Demare up there in one of the races, but I´m not too confident for that.
Really miss Lampaert & Stybs in here, but Etixx is strong on cobbles with any line-up

He might not start one of those races, Sutty. I guess he might do the later classics Ronde or Roubaix, but none of those early cobbles. |

I'm really interested to see, what Tony can do on proper cobbled races.

Besides the first stage of Down Under, I have not watched a single cycling race this year. That will change now. Hoping for a good race but cycling is pretty hard to keep interested in when you have no one to root for.

Can't you just enjoy good racing? I'm not a fanboy of any team/rider yet can watch races and be interested

It's great to see him having a go at these races but he's in the wrong team to do it with, they already have options (far to many in my opinion) and I fear he won't get a real chance to develop in the cobbled races.
Hope i'm completely wrong as he's an exciting rider to watch

Anybody know why Cance isn't on the startlist? Probably some obvious reason I've forgotten.
Hoping for a good race here, maybe a chance for GVA to win for once? Here's hoping.
And a small part of me still wants Chavenal to win

Maybe because the team does have so many options he will just be given a free roll to do what he wants. That's the best way to find out what he's capable of on cobbles. |

No clue of how to root for. I think I like Stybar the most of the classics riders, but he doesn't seem to attend? Canc and Sep doesn't either. Woulda liked to see them all there. Maybe we would have to wait for Strade in order for that to happen? |
