Has everybody gone mad here during winter? Kittel for MSR, 300kms long race with lumpy profile and dangerous descent, tailor made for strongest classic men?? Come on Ollfardh.

Yeah, maybe I overestimate him, but then there's this

If this is how real cycling works, then LLS had won all MSR editions in between 2008 - 2012. |

I think Kittel looks a bit slimmer (less bulky this season) could be the new blue strip though. It wouldn't shock me to see him win MSR but I think he needs to ride it and finish in the top 10 a couple of times to do so.

Anyone care about Katusha?
In other news Evelyn Stevens will make an Hour Record attempt at the end of the month in Denver. All the hall marks of a serious challenge, which will be good to watch

We might get a comeback soon.
Allessandro Ballan in talks with SouthEast it seems. |

I for one would like to see him back, pity it's not for a team that rides cobbles. I'm sure Giant could do with him (but maybe his dirty past would make that a no go)

One ProCycling making statments to get to the WT next season
I'd belive Prior can manage it, and the guessing game over sponsor will be fun for UK cycling fans. Could make Skys renewals process somewhat tricker as well. Gonna track this story with interest across the year.

Expect them to ride cobbles this year!
Pozatto is there as well with Ronde Van Vlaanderen his big season goal. As duo, when in form, they could mix things up I guess. |

Southeast is immediately the 2nd strongest team for the cobbles behind QUickstep!

Thomas-Stannard-Rowe doesn't ring any bells?
Or am I missing something?
EDIT: Ok Thomas isn't riding classics, but Stannard, aiming to be in great shape for Roubaix after winning OHN for 2 years straight, and Rowe, coming 8th at Roubaix last year and constantly improving are IMO much better than Pozzato who is just doing fuck all for years and mostly concentrating on parties, and Ballan that god only knows how much he declined.

For me judging cobbled riders is about who can follow Boonen and Cancellara when it matters (Taaienberg, Kwaremont, Carrefour de l'Arbre). Pozzato and Ballan both have shown many times they can.
Other guys I trust to do so: Kristoff, Van Avermaet, Vanmarcke, Stybar, Sagan, Degenkolb and Thomas.
BMC you're right are probably better but they'll be divided in camps between Van Avermaet and Gilbert
Thomas isn't riding any classics. Maybe he'll do Flanders.

What team is stronger than 2 old convicted dopers with no important results the last few years and no support form the rest of the team? Ok, I'll bite.
- Etixx, as you already mentioned
- BMC with GVA supported by Oss, Quinziato, Burghardt, Drucker, Schar and some youngsters. Maybe Gilbert as well.
- Lotto-Soudal with Debusschere, Roelandts, Benoot, very good support and Greipel or Gallopin can always surprise even if they're not targetting the cobbles.
- Giant, if we assume Degenkolb gets healed in time.
- Katusha, I don't know how Paolini's suspension is doing, but in general I'd take Kristoff + Paolini over Pozzato + Ballan any time.
- LottoNL has Vanmarcke supported by seasoned warriors like Wynants, Tjallingi, Tankink, Leezer, van Emden, ...
- Trek with Cancellara as a one-man army. Sure Popo, Devolder and Rast are getting older, but Stuyven and Theuns are ready.
EDIT to comment on above, I have my doubts on Sky, but I can see why you could include them as well.

Theyre all overrated on the cobbles. They always try to hang in there and maybe be in the first group in the final. Have you ever seen one of them attack ON the cobbles? Because i never seen that. |

Does that mean that they are worse than a rider who is returning after a 2 years long ban and another one who is doing fuck all for years, concentrating on parties mostly?
