If I were Cav, I'd just pack it in and go all out for Rio(if that's still on for him).

Just to go for track gold? That's a pretty dull option for a primarily road cyclist nowadays.

He can't. Cav has the 35 Tour stage wins record that he's still chasing.
2 year ago I was 90% sure he would make it but now I doubt it.

Clearly there's a disconnect as to my opinion of a certain Irishmen.

I really thought Ettix went for the wrong rider here but Kittel proved me wrong.
GC now Nizzolo, Lobato +2, Kittel +6 should make it really exciting finish tomorrow.
Cavendish out of GC due to a technical/crash at 10km mark. Lost 4min or so.
Dilier next big surprise outsprinting Cancellara and Gilbert.
For Kittel it`s a pity he missed bonus seconds yesterday due to a crash. |

Lobato wins. Nizzolo takes the lead in GC, 2 seconds over Lobato and 6 of Kittel.
Ewan wins in Australia. 6 men group including Kennaugh and Froome sprinted for the win.
Groenewegen wins a very close sprint against Bouhanni.
Direct Energie keeps winning in Bessèges. Chavanel beat Gallopin and Vichot in a sprint of 20 riders. Chavanel also takes the lead in GC with 2 seconds over Gallopin and 9 over Vichot.

Yeah, but mostly in sports that have nothing better to offer. Road Cycling has multiple events that are more prestigous: Grand Tours, Monuments, WCs..

Depends who you ask of course though.
In cycling (read: to cycling fans) there are more prestigious events. If you ask any old random person on the street, apart from the TDF which Cav obvs isn't going to win, an Olympic gold would probably be bigger to them.

Kittel takes the final stage and the overall. Nizzolo had a terrible position coming in to the final sprint and were unable to finish on the podium on the stage.

Murphy wins a mass sprint in Australia. Kennaugh still in the lead.
Sky also leads in in Spain. Poels win his second stage and extends his lead in the GC. LLS now 46 seconds back in 2nd place, while Poels's teammate Intxausti is third, some 56 seconds back.
Madrazo was the best rider in a 5-men breakaway in France. Chavanel keeps the lead in GC with a narrow lead over Gallopin and Vichot.

It was just one race but Kittel may be back. In Valencia, I have to give a huge shout-out to Poels, what a victory
