Round 3
We're really flying through this inaugural season, and as we hit the halfway point, can lakebeach defend his lead from jseadog1 and can the chasing pack make up some ground? Let's find out.
Unfortunately, Brewer was told to head to Antofagasta last time but, unike The Proclaimers, he felt walking 1000 miles wasn't a great idea so just climbed in the back of a random truck to see where it would take him. As it turned out, it took him a long way and after he fell out the back, he realised just how lost he was. It was certainly a bit cooler here and nowhere near as sunny. Weirdly, there seemed to be a tree who was pretty shocked to see the out of control traveller turn up right at his door. Where in the world is our idiot now?
Hopefully, with it being the weekend, you won't need as long but you still have the same 48 hours as always. 20:00 GMT on Monday is the deadline. As before, please be as detailed as possible with your answer.

Lucky for my bottom of the table hopes I felt putting same as last time due to constraints was lazy and didn't do anything instead
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

The main clue here was the stop sign on the right, which clearly most of you either missed or thought nothing of. It says Pare, which is only used in South America
To be fair, I paid attention to the sign. Its just, even if you zoom in, to me, it looks like 'Police' and as the image is only JPEG quality I think people can be forgiven for that!
R3 - It gets harder! |

Agree that it gets harder even though he said easier. There are way less geographical clues in this one besides the text based ones which he might think make it easier.
I looked up different stop sign sayings and instantly knew it was Pare. I zoomed in about as far as I could go.

If it was easy, everyone would get it and it would be a pointless game. There should be enough from the clues to get within the right area of the world. Which is correct, as 5 of the 6 answers I have so far are in the right country.
This is definitely a lot easier than the last one, trust me. I think you're just overthinking what is, essentially, a guessing game.

12 answers in so far and I can already tell you this is insanely close. Only one person so far is more than 800 miles away and the gaps at the top are tiny. Keep 'em coming guys.

Unfortunately searching up "Countries where the trees have faces" does not turn up many relevent results
unless of course it is a Colombian Stone carving.

Disappointing number of entries all things considered. Are those people already bored of it or do they just have the memory of a spoon?
You have just over three hours to enter.

I have the habit of working out where it is then forgetting about it until the deadline, mostly because. I always change at the last minute.
I'll have mine in soon.

Round 3 Results
On to a new location here and one with seemingly fewer visible clues, even compared to the last one. However, there are some things to note. Firstly, the yellow line down the middle of the road (ruling out the majority of Europe), the much less tropical, milder vibe of the place and the fact that I had stated he got there in a truck, so couldn't possibly be anywhere other than the Americas. With that in mind, let's see what you all put:
emre99 | Mühlhausen, Germany | Froomedog99 | Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA | jseadog1 | Hutchinson, Kansas, USA | jihardy | Beloit, Wisconsin, USA | Kiserlovski01 | Appleton, Wisconsin, USA | Croatia14 | Indianapolis, Indiana, USA | AbhishekLFC | Springfield, Missouri, USA | matt17br | Chantilly, Virginia, USA | Marcovdw | Onyx, Arkansas, USA | lakebeach | Miami, Manitoba, Canada | Bjartne | Flanders, Ontario, Canada | Luxemburger | Beecher, Illinois, USA | The Rider | Groningen, Netherlands | afirm | Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada | trekbmc | Plaza, Washington, USA | DiCyc | Lincoln, UK | PeterRyder | Rio de Janeiro, Brazil |
This time, Miguel98, Selwink and jandal7 were nowhere to be seen but we do have a newcomer in afirm, bringing us up to 20 participants in total. 13 people guessed North America, with three in Europe and one remaining in South America. This time, people were more spread out although two were in Wisconsin and two in Ontario. Clearly, most people thought it was around the Great Lakes and the Midwest. But were they in the right area?
Yes! Most of you had the right idea but none of you had Michigan. It was near Lowell, just east of the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. So, who was closest?
Luxemburger | 258 | Kiserlovski01 | 289 | jihardy | 316 | Croatia14 | 343 | afirm | 713 | Froomedog99 | 730 | matt17br | 810 | Bjartne | 824 | AbhishekLFC | 933 | Marcovdw | 1136 | jseadog1 | 1194 | lakebeach | 1214 | trekbmc | 2536 | DiCyc | 6023 | The Rider | 6432 | emre99 | 6781 | PeterRyder | 8500 |
With a guess just south of Chicago, Luxemburger, who was struggling near the bottom of the standings, takes the win by just 31 kilometres from Kiserlovski01. Wisconsin and Indiana were also very good guesses and give jihardy and previous winner Croatia14 some good points. afirm goes straight up to 5th right away despite being in the wrong country, north of the Lakes in Ontario.
The top two, ridiculously, were once again 20kms apart! jseadog1 in Kansas, lakebeach in Manitoba - a long way apart on a map but with a very similar result. PeterRyder takes last place, with the very last entry. Rio being 8500kms away from the correct answer. The European answers were slightly better but weren't close.
So, with just 2 rounds to go, here's how the standings look now:
# | | Rounds | Wins | Kms | Points | 1 | lakebeach | 3 | 1 | 4405 | 318 | 2 | jseadog1 | 3 | 1 | 4411 | 299 | 3 | Croatia14 | 3 | 1 | 5789 | 155 | 4 | Bjartne | 3 | 0 | 3142 | 147 | 5 | Luxemburger | 3 | 1 | 18151 | 111 | 6 | Kiserlovski01 | 3 | 0 | 15905 | 88 | 7 | jihardy | 3 | 0 | 13971 | 87 | 8 | The Rider | 3 | 0 | 15957 | 80 | 9 | trekbmc | 3 | 0 | 9607 | 52 | 10 | Froomedog99 | 3 | 0 | 13248 | 50 | 11 | PeterRyder | 3 | 0 | 21426 | 30 | 12 | AbhishekLFC | 3 | 0 | 15912 | 29 | 13 | Matt17br | 3 | 0 | 18013 | 27 | 14 | afirm | 1 | 0 | 713 | 25 | 15 | emre99 | 3 | 0 | 23799 | 23 | 16 | Marcovdw | 3 | 0 | 16726 | 22 | 17 | Miguel98 | 2 | 0 | 14831 | 19 | 18 | Selwink | 2 | 0 | 15266 | 16 | 19 | DiCyc | 3 | 0 | 24010 | 13 | 20 | jandal7 | 1 | 0 | 12122 | 1 |
The top two still have nothing between them with just 6 kilometres separating them, it's still all to play for. Both Croatia14 and Bjartne are still in with a shout if they can pull off a correct guess in one of the next two rounds. Luxemburger goes from 17th to 5th whilst Bjartne is still the most consistent of the people who have done all three rounds.
Round 4 will begin tomorrow.

Ah dammit, can't complain though. Best result so far, but only because this was much easier not to get completely wrong, although much harder to get completely right.

Wow that's a nice jump from 16th to 6th. At least scanning the Streetview state of Wisconsin for a road with the same road marking earned me something |

A little frustrating to have a couple of guys guessing just a little bit better than me, especially since all the guys who guessed worse than me were pretty far off.
Incredibly, I'm still in the lead though.
