Let's see who will take the victory in our epic battle.

Just some thoughts I'm floating around here for a future season. Feel free to respond to them:
It would be nice to get 32 players, don't know if it would be possible though, and if so, would we have too many forfeits?
Playing group stage or playing knockout is quite different, since 2-3 points in group stage can be important while knockout is just about surviving. So the current system goes from group to knockout.
But it would perhaps also be nice to have a competition and a cup (like in football). Have a big group where everyone plays everyone at least once and a cup on the side. Best I can compare it to is European football, with a league and a national cup.
Let me know what you think. The current format could, of course, also be kept.
Or, if it's not interesting enough, there doesn't need to be a follow-up after this run. |

Maybe you could do group - group - knockout. Just so no one gets a free passage to the quarter finals or something like that |

Wow that was as close as it could get, certainly got a bit lucky there.
I was actually hoping we would see a coin toss though.

jihardy - what do you mean with group-group-knockout? From bigger group to smaller groups or something?
Still need pm from roturn and dubbeldekker for the Quarter Finals! |

32 players would be nice but it would be highly unlikely to reach that number I fear. 24 seems kind of perfect though, so that we would have 6 group at first, let the first 2 of each group make it to the next rounds, which could consist of 4 groups of 3. Then the 4 remaining players would have to face the semifinals and thus the final for the lucky ones
But please let there be a follow-up, I'm still so bitter about missing this one

| lakebeach | vs | marcovdw | | 7 | | 11 | | 2 | | 1 | | 11 | | 8 |
Marcovdw took the first set with 11 - 7. Off to a good start. The second set was perfectly played by lakebeach, though. Using only 2 to beat marcovdw's 1. The last set was a formality as lakebeach took that one, too, with 11 remaining points over 8. A heavy last set for both, but lakebeach came out as the winner and progresses to the Semi Finals! The group winner triumphs over the runner-up of group B.
| jandal7 | vs | dubbeldekker | | 8 | | 5 | | 0 | | 14 | | 12 | | 1 |
Jandal, the group winner of group B, took the victory by force. Dubbeldekker put his money on set 2, while jandal sacrificed that set without remorse and took the remaining sets by ease. A dangerous play, but played out perfectly. The group winners of A and B both progress. The order is respected.
| roturn | vs | SportingNonsense | | 10 | | 13 | | 2 | | 1 | | 8 | | 6 |
Roturn, so far undefeated in the game, and SportingNonsense played an amazing match here. Never a difference larger than 3. The first set was to SN's advantage. The second set was a low grade battle but roturn's 2 conquered SN's 1. The last set was close again, but roturn came out the winner and goes into the Semi-Finals undefeated. Again, the group winner wins over a runner-up.
| weirdskyfan64 | vs | Vali | | 0 | | 1 | | 11 | | 7 | | 9 | | 12 |
It seems Vali doesn't respect the order. As only runner-up, he managed to outscore Group D winner weirdskyfan, who was actually on a good run. First set was a low playing field, only one point between the two, but an important set for Vali. weirdskyfan made it difficult for Vali by taking set 2, but Vali triumphed in the end.
And so we have our four Semi-finalists. Congratulations! |

I didn't expect to get this far or win that game. Also, love my descriptions, taking it by force, playing without remorse

15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Haha shows what I think of you
Yeah, makes it fun for me to do. Makes it look like a tennis match or something while you know (close to) nothing about the other man's play. So that's funny. It's like commentating on a rock-paper-scissor match |

You can now send in your Match results by pm.
However, since a draw cannot be allowed in the knock-out stage, additional tactics are required. Thus you must send in three sets of tactics. If the first match ends in a draw, it is replayed with the second set of tactics. Same to the third. If the third should also be a draw, the winner is decided by a
1. the rock-paper-scissor
2. coin toss
So you should now send in:
Match 5

Set 2: x points
Set 3: x points

Congrats jandal! So far you always put a high number in set 2, so hoped you'd do it again. Clever play to switch it up.

The big question was: can roturn stay undefeated? In the first set, lakebeach went full gas, while roturn allowed the set without too much resistance. Set two was the other way round. The last set came down to who had the most points left, and that was roturn. He goes to the final without ever having lost a match and only losing 3 sets over the course of the game so far.
Vali went into this game as the underdog, as only non-group winner left. He went into the game with a risky tactic. 15 on set 1 and only 5 spread over the other two sets. But it payed off beautifully with jandal using 8 sets to lose set 1 and then sacrificing set 2. Having already lost a set, this meant a suicide sacrifice. Vali is our other finalist.
