If a gap of 300.000 € isn`t filled until the 20th of December, the Bayern Rundfahrt won`t be on the 2016 calendar.
Lack of sponsors already stopped most German cycling races. The Bayern Rundfahrt is the last stage race at the moment and it would be horrible to see them stopping.

I'm surprised at the problems that effect German races. Germany is currently going though their best generation of riders since the time of Ullrich and Zabel.
Is it because Germany like most countries is obsessed with having a rider that can win the Tour for it to be really popular there?
I dont think that is the case, rather that cycling is seen as the dirtiest sport in Germany and also the two legends you mentioned were the ones that "benefited" to that state of things.
Indeed. Sponsors mainly left due to doping talks. Germany`s biggest TV channels ARD/ZDF still don`t show the TdF properly since 2006. This year was the first time, they had at least a bit of live coverage again. But it was lots of doping talks during the broadcast, so that most people probably switched over to Eurosport instead.
Also there is no real coverage of any other races on other channels than ESP. Not even the other German races like Rund um Köln, Vattenfall Cyclassics or Berlin Pro Race are properly covered. Some are on regional TV but also not the whole race.
So why sponsoring a race, when there is no TV coverage then?
Obviously I don't know the details, but it's no secret that Cult recently had to put down extra money for wages etc. as the team unexpectedly had run out of money. That could perhaps indicate that Cult are close to the truth than Stölting.
Anyway it's sad to see this happening to Skeldes team two years in a row. They have shown in the past that they are great at managing a team given the peace to focus on exactly that.
