I think it was pretty obvious that were the 3 strongest riders in the front group..
Anyways, GVA doesnt seem to be able to catch a break.
I didn't watch bar live word updates which made it seem like an attack that was lucky enough not be followed by others at right time.
If Van der Sande was strongest rider today then RIP the whole race...PCT rider at best.

Sky must be loving it how perfect match they have with Viviani, to have a sprinter that doesn't bother with leadouts and prefer just hopping on trains at the end is just heaven.

Considering his age, this is already more than we should expect of him. Let's keep the pressure off for a few years. |

There's a difference between putting pressure and not winning any race for 2.5 years and actually loosing by stupid tactics. Some of his tactical choices are baffling and tactics is something some riders never learn in their career.

Correct.
But it's also a big part experience. He'll learn from his mistakes. He's a smart guy, really. Studying at Ghent University
Well, at least let's hope so.
(Also, I'd rather he loses races now and learns so he can win big races later because of these experiences!) |

It's Benoot's first year, cut him some slack
Some things are certain in life, like GVA getting a flat in the last km. Good job by Van de Sande as well, he's really made for these races. Let's see if he can become even better, he's definitely WT material though
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Don't really see how you can say that Benoot was poor tactically. Just looked like he didn't have the legs to join the front group in the hills.
He and the rest of the Lotto-squad then played it perfectly, ruining the rythm in the group, while letting Van der Sande wheelsucking in the front. Benoot then placed a perfectly timed attack to get the 4th place, something he wouldn't had a chance in doing in the sprint behind.
He was very good, if you ask me. And Van der Sande may be better suited on a PCT team, if you should consider his own chances, but in those short hills, he has always been good.
Still only 24/25, so he could have a decent career ahead of him.

It was a pity he was injured so early on in the Tour as I think he could of taken at least one stage, anyway another solid season

Must be weird having 27 pro wins, but none of them are worth much
It's rare you see a rider with that many wins, not even having 1 world tour win |
