Who initiated the transfer anyway? Was it Kittel wanting to leave to earn more at Etixx or Giant trying to get rid of a heavy contract for a rider with a crap season?

Kittel initiated it, said that thanks to Dumoulin suddenly being a GC rider he feels like he wouldn't get a chance for a fully support TdF team

I call BS, he's doing it for the money!

Is he actually getting more money at Etixx?

Probably getting every bit of Cav's former wage and more.

he said he earns less at Etixx, I think he told 25-33% less...

Doubt it, but if so, that's very strange. To leave a team built around you for much less money...

https://www.radsport-news.com/sport/sp..._95814.htm

Beginning the last part of the teyt it says that Kittel earns 250.000€ less at Etixx.

Money is always involved. In every aspect of life. Always.

That article on german radsport-news says that Kittel
loses 250.000€ of garanteed payment for next year at Giant-Alpecin.

"Yes, well," apperently Kittel and the Giant-Alpecin management
didn't see eye to eye on wether he was fit for the TDF or not.
And according to german media that has caused a rift between them.

But also consider that fact that Giant-Alpecin quickly released Kittel from his contract.
Just like that, there was no big week long media campaign from either side,
like you would witness in the football world at simillar occasions.
So I guess they are quite happy to get rid of an expensive rider
and a type of rider they don't really wanna focus on.

My guess would be that Giant-Alpecin will focus more on Degenkolb and Dumoulin.

In my opinion he will be a solid GC contender but not a guy to build a whole team around.

At just 23 he`s already like the forgotten man of French cycling.

I imagine Kittel has noticed that Dumoulin is progressing into a GC rider, Barguil is also progressing and Mezgec has left, with his wages seemingly being taken by Ten Dam, another climber/ GC rider/ Helper so it does look like Giant are having a bit of a reshuffle of focus to the mountains and away from the sprints.

Degenkolb's also kicked on more the last couple of seasons and is more of a hard man sprinter but is the kind of sprinter you could take to a race and see do well without necessaliry having to build him a train of his own, in the way Sagan or Kristoff have shown in the past and it would be easier for him to form a dual focus for a GT with the climbing team they are seeem to be assembling then to try and fit Kittel and his train into it..

I'm not sure what Kittel's now former Giant train are doing or if any of them plan on joining him but he will still have Trentin, Gavira, T. Martin , Richeze and Boonen to choose from in terms of building his sprint train at Ettix so it's not looking that much worse.

He's a better option than Dumoulin is when it comes to GT's, I don't think either of them will ever win one unless the field is weak or other things happen like DNF's.

I do not believe that Giant deciding to become a GT team.
They had absolute top sprinter team..way change into averange GT team?
Team was well built and managment has done awesome job.
Dagenkolb is classic rider not pure sprinter.
I think it is all about money. Giant has developed himself most of theyr team riders..Ettix can buy what they want.

Never served a suspension, not even a rubbish 6 month off season ban like the Americans got so Popovych can go and shove it! Still making a living of something he so happily treated with such distain

Brendan Canty signs with Drapac for two years. Watch out for this guy!

Really liking them moves from Drapac so far, but of course Wippert leaving will hurt.
