With the Tour riders dropping like flies (Quintana next ?), and Aru is not very good on TT this might be Purito final shot for a Grand Tour before he retires.
Or will Valverde get the full support of Movistar, when and if Neiro steps off ?
Surely Tom D can't (even with a great TT) stay in that top-5
Majka perhaps ???
Why do you underestimate Tom? The remaining mountain stages aren't so tough(compared to stage 11 at least) and he can easily gain over 2 minutes on everyone else in the TT. The win would be hard, but top 5 is pretty much possible.
As the Finali I am a bit sad TD did not hold on to a podium spot.
I obviously didn't underestimate him (and many with me), 3 week race are so different and it only takes one bad stage to get all the nice things destroyed.
Tom D did a nice and surprising GT, and perhaps he will be a rider to count on in the future.
What could he have done with a better team (well better constructed for GC) ????
Lets hope he get a good Worlds ....
Did I mentioned that I think it was sad for Purito too. His final shot misfired.

Degenkolb finally wins a sprint. Really needs them on a silver platter.

If Tom wants to become a major GT rider, Giant are not going to have the team for him in the mtns over the next few seasons. As I imagine the team's budget will only offer support for both Kittel and Degenkolb for sprint stages and classic races. For those type of races the same domestiques can be used which are big strong flatmen.
Even if Giant bring some more climbers in, TD will probably be no better supported than Uran has been at Etixx in big mtn stages and Etixx have a bigger budget.
Given team budgets and focus being quite specialized these days, I think if TD wants to become a big GT rider he needs to change team or hope that Giant lose either Kittel or Degenkolb which will allow them to re-orientate their budget focus in his favour. |

Tom Dumoulin gets awarded the overall combativity award. A nice gesture from the organiser.

A deserved prize.
Though it could've gone to Fraile, too.
Still, Dumoulin fought hard.
And now for Adam Hansen to keep riding GTs until he turns 40. Legend! |

After reading the news about Adam Hansen's achievement, wow this guy is made of metal or something. I hope he doesn't get tired in doing that.
Sadly Aru finally won a GT. I was hoping for Purito or Majka, but both did a great job, anyway Purito might not get another chance, even a podium finish.

That might be true about fraile. But I think the jury also took into account the fact that fraile already won the Mountain jersey. |

So whats up with Dumoulin now? Does he focus more on GT's now or does he continue do it all approach he has going on? Could imagine he really wanted to win Gold in Rio fx.
I would like to see him the Giro. 2 stages are completely up for grabs and it starts in NL. A Giro-Rio Peak shouldnt be completely unrealistic. |

As an edit, it probably will be suicide to ride the Giro if not fully prepared and committed to the GC-route. Generally that race is a much harder race which tends to be opened a lot earlier if the route allows it (fx. Mortirolo - Aprica) which was the only thing he struggled with this year. He was fine if they 'softpedalled' into the last climb.
On top of that, Majka is confirmed for the Giro along with Landa, probably at Sky and either Aru/Nibali which is super intriguing. So it wont be easy at all. And then you obviously have the usual suspect Urán, Hesjedal, Kruijswijk, Pozzovivo and probably a few surprises among.. maybe Porte? These riders peak religiously for this race. So no matter what, it wont be a cakewalk! |

Out of his interview yesterday he sees himself as a 1-week GC rider with the potential of Grand Tours but that will take time.
Next year he's going to the Tour. Not for GC, though he will discuss it with the team and see what's possible.
Rio is an objective for him. But with a wink he said: Wiggins won the Tour and Olympic TT, right? |

Ok, so that pretty much means no Giro I assume? I think that will be wise. Unless he steps his game up x2 from the Vuelta, he will have a very hard time! |

From the interview, I think no Giro. But that's still far away so we'll have to see how the plans change
Though I think the Tour is pretty important to him. Especially after this year's unfortunate crash out. |

Also, I've heard saying that Nibali wants another crack at the Giro, while Aru wants to go to the Tour.
That would mean a big problem averted for Astana. Both riders can get what they want, I reckon |

Good job by the organisation working around this. He perhaps did not deserve combativity award, but he should've been on that podium somehow!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Haha more intrigue between Bala and Purito, I love it!
That said, I dont know what he is rambling about, knowing Valverde, Rodriguez knew it was coming. Valverde is that type of guy that wants it all. |

And with reason!
Why would you leave an opportunity to take the Points Jersey like that? I'd give anything to grab that, too. I'd even attack the leader of the race on the last day if I can still win the race, so to speak.
Valverde was within every right and did it with style. |

Maybe he couldn't? The guy was on the rivet the entire final week so how does one attack if they physically can't or is this something you are not understanding?
