Tough call. I'm bound to call a draw between Bahamontes, Van Impe and Gaul. All three unbeatable as climbers.
Merckx was fantastic but doesn't really belong in this list he was no real climber. Just so good he could climb with the best
My opinion, though |

Tough split, for me, between Coppi, Gaul and Bahamontes. Gaul and Bahamontes were probably the better 'pure' climbers but Coppi was a lot stronger overall and on hills.
The fact Quintana is on this list is a joke when someone like Virenque or Armstrong or Hinault or Anquetil are not...

Agree with Ian, but with Ocaña as well, who almost (crashed out) of the 1971 tour where it is thought he would've beat Merckx. If I had one vote it would probably be for him.
Pottier (or Pothier, one cheated in 1904 the other won in 1905, I get confused), was the first pure climber and probably deserves a mention.

Pantani, Bahamontes and Gaul.
But I vote for Robertito cause he's so damn underrated.

I voted for Pantani but may well have voted for Luis Ocana had he been on the poll, also Claudio Chiappucci was worth a spot on the poll. |

-- Wait.
Are we looking for the greatest climber or the biggest? I don't know all sizes but Froome seems a good shot.
Quintana should be on the list for smallest climbers of all time |

Wiggins should be bigger with 192cm, and Quintana isn't that small tbh.
