Has anyone been in the TOP 5 in both three GTs in the same year?

Nope. Raphael Geminiani made a 4-6-3.

Perhaps that's his goal then. Still tuff though, when you look at the riders on the startlist for this years Vuelta Pfft

Well Contador isn't on the 12 rider shortlist submitted which i'm pretty sure means he won't start the Vuelta

Wouldnt surprise me if he pulls a rabbit tho. Riis has spoken about Contador suffering from allergies in the spring and summer and getting better in autumn, I dont know whether bullshit or legit, but anyhow, Contador is the man to do this

So far it's just rumours anyway.. the odds where imo sorta higher that he'd race Vuelta last year than this year, and this was when he had an injury. I prefer it if he already focuses on his 2016 prep because he should really put everything into winning another Tour. If he wants to have Vuelta record of most wins he can do it next year... or should just not retire in 2016 at all and continue racing which would be better option for me. Grin

Kind of just thought of this, but Astana took 2nd and 3rd at the Giro, and Movistar took 2nd and 3rd at the Tour. If 2nd and 3rd are occupied by riders of the same team here, would that be the first time all 3 grand tours had riders from the same team in 2nd and 3rd in the same season?

Sagan kinda needs to ride Vuelta. He just haven't won enough this season, and perhaps the Vuelta will fit him better than the Tour does. I do see a few good chances for him in this race Smile

Pretty weak Movistar team imo. Ventoso, Sutherland and Erviti cant climb for shit, while I have no clue how Rojas, Visconti and Moreno will do. They all CAN climb, but they need to be at their A-game just to compare to Sky and and Astana. Amador is solid and if he climbs as he did in the Giro, he will be important

Agreed, i think this is going to be the super teams Vuelta (Sky and Astana). If you look at the Giro Amador crapped the bed in the final week, Visconti was strong but I have a feeling he'll be wasted because of all the work he has to do since really there's no one else to do it, so that leaves Quintana and Valverde alone in the mountains against the small armies of Sky and Astana. If Movistar wants a shot to keep up with the big boys they need to leave Ventoso and Rojas at home, no disrespect but they will not win a sprint or even be competitive I believe, instead bring Anton, Gadret, Capecchi, Gorka Izagirre, etc. I really would love to see Valverde with real team behind him, I think he could do some serious damage.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I read that Valverde would be the captain for Movistar? If so, I find it odd, that Quintana is in the foreground with Valverde behind him (as if Valverde is supporting Quintana).

Cyclingnews once again showcasing their grammatical ineptitude in that article.

Not only grammatical ineptitude:

In contrast, Roche has done the Giro-Tour double on four previous occasions. His best performance came on his last attempt in 2013 where he won a stage, worse the leader’s jersey and finished fifth overall.

Should be Tour-Vuelta double.

Do you notice how everyone smiles, but Valv doesn't? I think Quintana will lead and I'm not happy about this.

Stromeon
Dear God those are very weak teams!

On the other hand, I'm quite excited to see what Team Colombia can do in their first GT since the Giro 2014.

CANO Alex
DUARTE Fabio
DUQUE Leonardo
PEDRAZA MORALES Walter Fernando
QUINTERO Carlos
RAMIREZ Brayan Steven
RUBIANO Miguel Angel
TORRES Rodolfo Andres
VALENCIA Juan Pablo

Cano will be the leader as I think I read somewhere that he was targeting a top 10 (which seems rather ambitious to me but this is the Vuelta); Duarte is probably similarly capable of being the GC guy but we will probably see his typical very hot and very cold stage-hunting performances - he is an extremely good climber on his day, as we have seen at past Giros, but those days seem to be few and far between. Rodolfo Torres is another one to watch - has had an excellent season so far and coming off 7th place in Burgos he seems to be in form. Pedraza is a very aggressive climber - he won the KoM in both the Vuelta a Colombia and the Vuelta a Guatemala last year, I would be surprised if we don't see him in some breakaways. Rubiano is good for those hilly transitional stages, and Brayan Ramirez is a promising talent who did a lot of great work in supporting Miguel Ángel López in his Avenir win last year. It's almost the best team they can field and I just hope that some of them are on form, they seem to be a very unpredictable bunch Pfft
