Vuelta a España Discussion

Honestly didn't think Cunego would lose so much time today, considering its a hill TT and he is one of the strongest hill riders in the race. I was banking on that too.

Tenorio with a great TT there putting time into Pluichkin who has been fairly quiet in the race so far. Saving himself perhaps for later attacks? This shows he really needs to try and attack and create a buffer for that last chrono.

Amador - Gesink perhaps battling for last podium spot. Cunego maybe fading?...

Hmm, not bad ,but not perfect, we are still waiting for Tenorio to have a bad day, which is not coming. Minute is a lot, considering the fact that both Tenorio and Pluchkin finished together in all mountain stages so far and also final TT should benefit Tenorio. At least Gesink and Amador have quite a gap to Aleksandr.

So for the overall win, we need to claw back some two minutes on Tenorio and that could prove to be impossible. Still second place in GC is very good, we willl keep fighting though.

Congrats to Venchi,at least Phinney is destroying it in TTs after Herbiers and recent mountain stage failure.

Thanks for the nice report tsmoha! Smile

It is just me, or is Pluchkin really pulling a Zubeldia. Almost invisible, but always there (just few places higher than real life Zubeldia). Pfft

Another good TT from Guldhammer, and the minute gained to his rivals considering a top 10 overall could prove crucial in the mountains.

Hopefully he's able to defend his 9th place through the mountains, as it looks somewhat impossible to go past any of the riders in the top 8 looking at the quality there.

That next stage looks brutal, especially considering the distance. Hopefully Guldhammer will have a good day there, as huge gaps could emerge if the biggest guns have a go at each other from the bottom of the penultimate climb.

Thanks for another nice report, tsmoha!

Well done there Lecuisinier. Gapping every competitor except for Keinath is really good. I'm not going to be fooled that he has even an outside shot at riding with Guldhammer. He is just a much better rider. Gaining on Pozzovivo here is nice. I have no ambition on following him in the mountains, but being this close to the top 10 is really nice.

Kritskiy will go past surely, so for now it is all about keeping Keinath and Monsalve behind. I suspect atleast one of them will end up ahead of Lecuisinier in the end though. Also Contador with "only" 10 minutes could possibly go past as he is a much better rider, and could easily be on the attack or in one of the favorite groups on more than one of these final mountainstages. I doubt that Lecuisinier will.

Tinkoff with 5 guys battling to be inside the top 30 is quite an achievement. Too bad really that Kritskiy is doing so poorly. If he could climb to around 5th it could be a massive race for Tinkoff.

Swift loaning out his points jersey here for a while, but are sure to take it back on the next stage.

I think you mean the second to next stage, because next stage is so brutal, that Swift will be glad for making it within a time limit. Wink

That would be awesome, I just hope tomorrow's race will be as hard as possible, also the last week of Vuelta looks really hard, so I still expect a lot of GC changes, but even top-10 would still be good.

Tough tactical decision for tomorrow's stage, going in the breakaway normally means our leader only will attack late, but our sponsors would probably prefer stage wins/KoM/Team... Your call Timofey!

I would prefer to have a guy in the break for sure Smile - Preferably my bolivian or Paillot. It would be amazing to have the KOM jersey for just one day.

Another great ride by Tenorio. Probably because the hill stat didn't really seem to matter at all (Gesink). It's looking good, but i'm still not convinced that Tenorio will be able to hold off Pliuchkin. A top 2 should definitely be the goal though, and looks more than possible.

I have been geeking around, like I always am with points and stuff - One team have failed to score a single point in the race so far, while another 4 teams have scored below 5 points. The high jumpers are between 480 and 350 points already.

So some teams will definately be losing ground here. Also, it is not the teams that necessarily were expecting to do the best, that is acutally doing so.

I decided to do it this way, because I don't want to spoil anything really. I know exactly where I am in the ranks so far - And that is not good Pfft

So, the CT Catching Up Tour continues:

Stage 2: Nice to see Dekker up there in the front, sprinting. I've had plenty of stages and races where my top guys have been caught out in a split in the peloton...

Stage 4: Will Cunego ever retire?

Stage 5: Abal is super-doped for this race. Very strong performance by Phinney. Dekker did OK, also good result by Viennet.

Stage 8: Damn it. Phinney looks unstopable which is OK, but Dekker really should be able to compete with that old pensioner of Cunego...

Stage 9: Wait a minute. Phinney's dead. And Gesink obviously tried Landis' testosterone products. Dekker with yet another very mediocre day.

Stage 11: Acceptable. Viennet obviously suffered or didn't care, but Dekker's 3rd is as good as it gets. Amador, Abal and the pensioner now within reach.

Really shows how much the HL stat had an impact with TVG finishing 7th.

Just like the Giro I don't have much to look forward to in the final 10 stages. I guess I got breakaways and seeing if Maksimov can make it all 21 stages.

Looking at how the Giro went, I would be very surprised if Maksimov made it to the very end.

Stage 16, 18, 19 and 20 are all fairly short stages where riders can be dropped from scratch. I would be surprised if my sprinter - Tzortzakis, would make it to the end here.

Okay not a bad result from Amador. I think he's still in contention for a podium, but he has some ground to make up. I hope his mountain advantage becomes clear going into tomorrow and the brutal final week. A top 5 should be achievable for sure I would expect.

Great reporting tsmoha, this is really a fun race.

A bit disappointed with Gesink's time loss given that Dekker and Abal were able to hang to the 3 big climbers. Still, he showed up this time so I can't complain too much.

Top 6 seems secured now, but I'm still hoping for a podium. Hopefully the hilly stages will go his way since it's very unlikely that he'll gain back any time in the mountains.

Nice work from Amador to bridge that little gap there. Alexkr I think this will turn out to be a great fight for the podium. I still think Gesink can potentially put time into Amador sometimes in the mountains.
