Well I guess that rules out Rein Taaramae as being this year's zany 'Out of Contract' overall victor, unless Astana change their minds after today's performance.
It will be smart keep him out of Vuelta list. 2009 he was 1 bad day GT rider..now he is Gt shit magnet.
6 day races..that is he's max. at the future. Hope is gone |

Hansen
It's going to be fun seeing what De Clercq can do. I except some good finishes from him on the mountains. |

I expect total chaos for Lotto, they have too many GC leaders. It would be funny if De Gendt and Vanendert suddenly find their good form again as well
Boeckmans has has a great season so far, a stage win would really top it.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

They might technically have GC leaders but non of them really are GC leaders, maybe one of them can finish in the top 10 by the end of the race but nobody will notice

Oh well, no Wellens, no Gallopin. Guess they chose the boring Tour version, where Van den Broeck and Monfort can split heads over some obscure Top 20 place and discuss who should have supported whom, whilst we all wait forever and ever to see De Gendt finally do something..
Ergo: Hansen for captain please.

Astana squad for la Vuelta. Strongest team and it won't be close.
Fabio Aru (Ita)
Dario Cataldo (Ita)
Mikel Landa (Spa)
Vincenzo Nibali (Ita)
Diego Rosa (Ita)
Luis Leon Sanchez (Spa)
Paolo Tiralongo (Ita)
Alessandro Vanotti (Ita)
Andrej Zeits (Kaz)
Can't wait to see Tiralongo outsky the Sky-Train itself
Landa said a while back that he is usually better for the early months of a season and not so much of a late bloomer; I don't know how his Burgos race was but from the stats, it didn't look well. I hope he comes in shape and can ride for his own gain, although he'll likely already get a taste of his future Portechkin role when he can super-pace Nibali and Aru up the climb..

I've read stuff saying Quintana will be riding in support of Valverde... I really hope that's not the case I know he wants to help Valverde after Valverde (somewhat) helped him in the tour, but I just cant see Vavlerde holding up vs. the Astana trio and Froome like Quintana could. |

I'm fairly certain that this has been established a while back already, at least I was reading news about it few months back. Why should they change minds now? Valverde is in the form of his life, he has won this race and podiumed it addtitionally six(?) times, never finished worse than fifth. He always deserve to be leader in this race, no matter the competition.
"(somewhat) helping".. yeah.. whatever.

Valverde is having a fantastic season, and he deserves to get a chance to lead Movistar in a GT this year, but after peaking for the spring classics and for the tour, I don't know if he has enough left in the tank for another GT. Also this is a much stronger Vuelta field than Valverde is used to facing. Quintana is the best climber in the world and has raced little this year relative to the other riders who rode the Tour. On any other team besides Sky or Astana Valverde would be the unquestioned leader but I think Quintana gives Movistar the best chance to win |

Yes, he is the best climber but how is his form? Don't know. With Valverde you know hell be there right at the point. Quintana has raced just as much and hard as the next guy, think T-A, Pais Vasco or Romandie. He hit his peak at le Tour. He has not attented any prep races so far. Sure the guy is a GT recovery beast but Colombia also loves that guy, lots of fans and media and so on..
It's likely it's all PR talk to put pressure off Quintana in the first week or so, and Movistar have done well with their two leader strategy since Valv and Quintana complement each other very very well, but I'm pretty sure that Vuelta Valverde will always be a safe bet.
Anyhoo, welcome to the forum

That'd be a huge surprise, I'd love it obviously and welcome it. Any race is better with Contador. However I had thought that proper rest would be key now if he wants to compete on a high level next year.
Vamos Contador!

Contador was dead at the tour. it'd be stupid to do the Vuelta.

If Contador rides Vuelta (I don't think so) and gets into TOP 5...
Has anyone been in the TOP 5 in both three GTs in the same year?

Yeah i don't think he can do much either, if he shows up. I always enjoy seeing him race, so i kinda hope he does show, but I think result whise, he would be better of racing USA Pro Challenge, if he is to race anything this month

If that really is true.... VAMOS CONTADOR!!!!! True fighter and greatest champion of this time!!!!
Although I doubt it. He's already very tired, much more than the rest. If he does, it would probably be psychological games, keeping pressure off himself for the next season. But you can never be sure with Bertie. |
