PCMdaily DB Stat Discussion - PCM15
Tafiolmo

@Tafiolmo
WHAT?
I regard you a good statmaker but you simply cannot do that Pfft

Well you guys have just upgraded Kiryenka to 78 TT making him one of the best and this Polish guy beat him today and he's not going to do that on a low 70s TT stat, that's why I've suggested a mid 70s TT stat.

Jesleyh
@Tafiolmo
76TT would make him win every single TT he will ever encounter in game in his Continental Team(One Pro Cycling). And looking at his result, this is to be fair the first big thing he has done ever. Or well, maybe his 2013 Britain ITT(12th).
This is basically his first good TT, well, combined with the Polish NC ITT which as I explained is difficult to draw conclusions from.
Yes, even on CT level he has been mediocre
(https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/Baltyk_Karkonosze_Tour_2015_Stage_5_Przel_Okraj last TT result on that level)

Him dominating the CT calendar like that should definitely not happen.

There's so much to take into account for a race like this and that is also why one result is never enough for a huge upgrade.
Worse riders can always beat better riders(cycling would've been really boring otherwise ofc Pfft).
Obviously form is a big factor here(Without doubt this was Bialoblocki's big season goal) as is motivation.
But what also helps are the fact that he got a lot of help. Drafting helped him a lot today, for instance.
Call it a bit of ''nationality bonus'' in real life.

After all stats should not always purely reflect results, but rather ability.

Can tell you he's not going to be on 76, not on 75 or 74 either. Wink

Good reasoning there, but as I originally said good form variable and nationality bonus can be added, but he has to be early 70s then to have any chance.

Jesleyh
Can confirm he will be in low 70s, have not yet decided what exactly he will be.
(There's a reason I stopped at 74 and didn't continue with 73, 72 Pfft)

Just noticed Lars Ytting Bak.

Are you even aware he's only a 74 OVR?

While he has all stats at 63+ and, imo understandably, rather low (63) mountain and sprint. How can you rate him that low? He's not Cancellara/Tony Martin kind of superhuman, but he's right under them with any other solid flat rider. No one can drag the peloton like Lars. No one can go on long attacks where he seemingly has nothing to do like Lars. How he can have below 78-80 baroudeur and 75+ resistance is beyond me. Not to mention that both Recovery and Stamina should be higher than they are now (75 and 74) imo.

Have you not watched the Tour de France? Have you not seen Greipel's wins? Have you not heard how he, on one of the last mountain stages, had to "pick up" Greipel who fell off way too early, and later on had to fight back to the favourites 'cause his captain needed help and everyone else had fallen off?

I know he's old (35) and that he also needs to be at a point where he won't go all out and win a lot of things, 'cause that's not REALLY his style, but give the man some respect. Imo the best helper (not named Geraint Thomas and Richie Porte) in all of cycling.

Being Danish, I see most of the interviews with him during (for example) the Tour de France. You often see riders being completely devastated after stages, where as Lars just stands there "Well, it's tough as **** and I feel like I'm going to die." and then gets asked "so what about tomorrow?" and he replies "Yeah it's going to be great fun!"

'scuse me? Feels like I'm going to die => great fun?

He's always in a good mood and he's, most of all, a physical beast.

Ollfardh
I actually disagree with you on most stuff, and being danish, having a good mood and making good interviews is not really stuff that should allow a stat increase.

He's a good rider, but not as close to the top as you see him. Pretty much like Danny Pate wasn't Wink
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Spilak23
If there is one stat that should be changed it's Bak's mountain stat. He was quite good in the mountain stages during the Tour constantly coming in around 40th place. 63 is too low. I'd say around 70.

Lamba
Are you high or something? Why should nationality ever be the premise for a statincrease?

I'm giving examples exactly as to how strong he actually is. It takes physical and mental strength to keep the mood up and be as visible and hardworking as he is in the third week of the tour.

Edit: Also, Jesleyh (or whatever his name is, the admin dude) asked for specifically the lower rated riders, as it was pretty certain they'd get around to Kittel, Contador and the rest of the top no problems. I'm merely putting in someone who are rated too low compared to how well he performs. 73 flat and 70'ish physicals will not be perfoming like Lars is doing IRL, which means it's wrong/badly designed.

@Lamba
Perhaps he can have a small upgrade, but not heavily underrated if you ask me.
And his interviews do not matter really. There is no mental stat, even though that would be cool Wink

@clamel
We do not add stagiares to the teams because they only ride a couple months and in most cases do not get a contract.
However I'm all for adding talents to the game so we can add at least the noteable ones(perhaps all) in a next version, thanks Wink

Then what do you call the baroudeur stat?

There's nowhere in the world of cycling you actually "fight", if not with yourself and your own body. If that's not a mental stat, being able to push yourself more, then nothing is.

Regarding this; If anything, you could imo downgrade some of his other stats and balance more things around 70-71'ish. His main force (these days at least) is his ability to just truck on like there's no tomorrow, nearly, no matter the circumstances.

That's not really visible as his stats are now.

Jesleyh
It is a mental stat but not a stat that defines how strong you are mentally. Wink
You're right, I worded that badly Wink

But the fighter stat defines how much the rider likes to attack, not how long he can "fight" against the circumstances.

Improved stats for Mike Teunissen of Lotto Jumbo, where he was impressive in the recent Ride London Classic. He looks like a future cobble rider after having taken the Paris-Roubiax Espoirs and at the moment all his stats are in the 60s?

Selwink
If I'm not mistaken Teunissen has already received quite a good boost in quite a few stats (FL, HI, SPR, ACC, support stats if I'm not mistaken)

Shouldn't G.Van Avermaet have 80 cobble instead of 81? because irl he is a bit better in races with cobbled hills like tour of flanders instead of races like paris roubaix, I think 80 would be good because with his hill stats, he will compete for the win in tour of flanders and he will more an outsider in races like paris roubaix like in real life.

I also think Cancellara should have a little downgrade in cobble, because his flat stat already gives him a huge advantage (My rider litteraly dies when he is in his wheel Grin). And after 2013 he was never able to drop everybody on cobbles like he used to do.

sorry for my bad english

Ah ok, it's because I still haven't downloaded the new DB yet and was thinking that the new DB hadn't included as recently as the Ride London race.

GVA finished third in Paris-Roubaix this year and while he might be more likely to win a Tour of Flanders, the game from what I understand doesn't read that much into the hill stat for dominant cobble races, so his cobble stat is the most important and so 81 is right for him. The real problem with GVA in the cobble classics is that despite being one of the strongest he always seems to time his efforts incorrectly and for this reason still hasn't won a big one.

Cancellara I agree destroys riders in game when they try to hold his wheel, but it's hard to decrease his stats as he's missed most of this season on the cobbles, I guess we need to wait till next season. Boonen for years kept his high stats despite being injured and has only recently gone down, so it's too early for Cancellara yet.

Also again the flat stat in cobble races isn't read that much and it's cobble that dominates so it needs to be high even if the rider in real life doesn't drop his rivals over the cobbles.

Ok, here you go. Some of these have not changed (much) though.

Don't just look at the main stat, also look at the backup stats, those are very important for the performances of the rider.

Keep in mind that these stats are also a matter of opinion.
There will definitely be people disagreeing with those stats, but we hope we can satisfy the most people possible.
This is what we think is a good reflectation on the performances of the riders throughout 2015(and a bit 2014). Not just TdF! Pfft

I always wondered: why does cancelarra always have such a great descent stat? I've never seen him do a crazy descent like sagan/nibali
