Of course he said that but I doubt it will happen that way
It will happen that way because the main reason why he changed of team is because he wanted leadership for the tour, why would huge go to BMC to be giro leader when he was already leader in this race for team sky? Where's the logic ? He will be co leader with TVG and the strongest rider will take full leadership
It's perfectly logical! I think Sky told him he wouldn't be getting another chance at GT leadership, remember they are bringing in Landa so I see it as a mutual parting more than Porte leaving just to lead at the TDF. I'm sure in the contact negotiations with BMC the joint leadership thing was discussed but that doesn't mean that is what will happen, what they might agree to now isn't always how things will play out.

Team sky only bring landa to replace Richie Porte it's not because they told him he wouldn't get another chance. It has nothing to do with that and let's not forget that team sky probably had an idea that Porte would go elsewhere in the middle of the season but Porte made it official during the tour. |

I don't agree, I think both Porte and Sky knew after the Giro that he was on his way to another team, Porte has been talking to BMC for a while now and they already agreed to terms before the Tour (thats what I have heard anyway). I don't think Porte leaving is the main reason are bringing in Landa

Well, Porte to BMC is like the most predictable transfer happening this year, however it's kinda funny: They have a Grand Tour leader in the form of TVG who is notorious for having one, two bad days a Grand Tour, and then they get a new guy who is even more known for bad days, misfortune and disappointment. Go figure. At least Cadel was consistent cuz that's what you need if you want to make it 3 weeks. Wonder who of those two guys will have their bad day first next year, I hope this will be a PCMdaily bet then.
@fidjim: At least Landa has already podiumed a Grand Tour. Porte is 30 and was once in Top 10. From a breakaway. The basque is a young (Grand Tour) upgrade. Great transfer for SKY.

@fidjim2013
"We officially welcome Richie to the BMC Racing Team," team manager Jim Ochowicz said in a surprise statement from the US-registered team.
"Richie's addition to our roster for next year adds extra muscle and a wealth of experience. It also gives us the chance to separate and/or unite our strategies and goals as we see fit throughout the season."
To me that reads that they really haven't made up there minds, also LRP wasn't exactly emphatic he will be co leader at the TDF
"I want to win races like Paris-Nice and Catalunya again and I think next year at the Tour de France, why not have Tejay van Garderen and me there? We get along well," he said. "It is exciting to be going to a team where I am going to have so many opportunities for myself to win races."
I guess we will have to wait and see

POWER SIGNING BY ORICA! I can't even imagine how their team will be in three years time with Robert Power and the Yates brothers....
A couple other possible transfers would be:
Jelte Slagter to Lotto Jumbo
Giovanni Visconti to Astana
And looks like Sky wants everyone these days, Arthur Vichot linked with Sky....
New York Knicks - Bardiani CFS - AG2R - Millwall FC - Le Havre AC

The Power news is very very very old, in fact it was mentioned in the very first post of this thread ... Also Visconti is contracted next season with Movistar so if he is moving then i'd be surprised

Honestly looking forward to the Porte-Tejay constellation. In a Tour with a decent amount of ITT, they could potential create ALOT of havoc. Lets remember they both get a year older, Tejey is entering his prime and Porte wont have the pressure on him to deliver 100% which honestly seems to be his problem (along with his shaky recovery, obviously - I think he just rode way too much at a too high level this year) I see similarities with Klodi-Ullrich. Add another deadly combo off Valv-Quinco and a rested Contador and we have a race. Am I forgetting anyone? Sky will still be a force to be reckoned with with Landa (the similarities to Heras is just so big), Froome and yes... G. Add another year in the bank to Pinot and Bardet.
Looking forward to see route presentation as always. On one hand, Im hoping for 80 kilometres of ITT, on the other hand, that would reduce Quintana's chances drastically, along with the French, although Pinot has become more than respectable. 60 alá 2013 would be my guess - a hilly and a flat. |

I would love to see more ITT k's next year but I think ASO will still try and play to the current crop of the French GT talent, maybe we won't get a TTT next year and a longer ITT

From what I've seen, Slagter's been riding for his own chances the last two years. He may not be designated leader, but he's also never worked for Martin. As someone who pays attention to that closely, they were always separate, even when in a select group at a critical time of the race. he's never been used as a domestique.
