I suppose he can have bigger problems in stages like stage 11, with several shapr mountains in succesion.

You're sure about that? Cuz I'm not. I can see him loose a minute on guys like Quintana, Froome. Ofc he'll get some time back on the TT on Landa, Aru and Quintana. But he'll hardly gain anything on Froome - 20 seconds maximum. The Vuelta climbs are too steep for him. This isn't France with 6-8%. Here 9-10% is absolutely normal. That's why I can't see him getting on the podium, but only time will tell. For the good race, I hope I'm wrong, but I highly doubt it.

Tejay is quite good on steep ramps actually. See Mende in le Tour which was his best performance. Or that stage in Cali won by Acevedo. Wouldn't worry about that stage if I was him.

I said minutes, ofc he can loose a single minute, that is possible with the climb being suited to other types of climbs, but no minutes if he is in any kind of form and riding for GC. I know how spanish climbs differ to french, i have seen like 20 editions of La Vuelta. Smile

I also dont think he is a podium contender and i have never said he is, i just dont think that he should specially avoid Vuelta, it can be a good experince at least. Wink
I'll be back

Of course but it's about time he started podium-ing the GTs if he wants to be someone in cycling. He's entering the peak age for cycling now. He mustn't be happy with top 5 anymore. Perhaps loosing weight would help. 72kg for 1.86m isn't very good for a climber. I'm sure he understands you need to be a great climber to win a GT, not so much a great TT-ist. But why doesn't he try. His climbing hasn't moved since 2012. Three years and no movement.

He's closer to 68 kgs than 72kgs this season. His climbing has improved. He has one big problem, happened every gt he ever did, there is always one stage where he gets dropped when there are still 50 riders left. Happens every GT. As long as he doesn't solve that I won't take him seriously as a podium contender in GT's. He definatly has the skills to podium a GT with enought TT kilometers if he solves the bad day problem.

You can also add his performances at Catalunya with its steep ramps, if TVG turns up in good condition then any time he loses on that climb just wont be significant. People overrate the Steep climbs as far as big GC gaps, it's the climbs that have constantly changing gradients that cause the most damage

And he was on track to his first GT podium until whatever he had stopped him. I can't agree with you about his climbing, it has improved and there is noway he was 72 kgs in the Dauphine or TDF, if he was indeed still 72 then I don't see how he would drop anymore weight. I don't expect him to be a serious threat to win at the Vuelta and is a chance at a podium but I wouldn't put my house on it. To me TVG going to Vuelta is a sign of maturity and that he is serious about being a true GT contender, I think if he is ever going to win a GT it will be the TDF and not a Vuelta or Giro

I think it will create havoc due Cobortoria in the absolute final which also is a very hard climb. Finally a stage where we realistically can expect attacks on the second last climb since the ascend starts with 30 km to go. The final climbs reminds me of Pampeago, just a notch harder.

Just went over the route and I think its a very decent route, honestly. Not too many of those flat stages with just one climb, apart from the first week (I guess its too attract those WC-riders). Stage 11 and 16 will be carnage.

Agree on TJ, he has improved his climbing significant this year. I dont think he will ever win the Tour - he needs a 2012 Tour to do it - and even then, it looks hard. He can podium a few times. But if Hesjedal can win the Giro, so can TJ. Rhose 60 long ITT will do him well. On the other hand, he is Americans, so the chances of him riding that is pretty slim.

You know what I'm going to say... Pfft

Actually, although I'll take a better look at the profiles and stuff as the Vuelta comes closer, it doesn't look too bad. Stage 11 and the third week (Stages 16-20) look excellent, and I give them credit for trying something new with the downhill finishes at the end. Will be interesting to see how it pans out with the block of 3 hard MTFs, then the flat TT, and then three more stages which give good opportunities for attacking, we haven't really had a route like that for a very long time (well Vuelta 2011 arguably but they were rubbish stages at the end, a lot worse than these). The Andorra stage is simply awesome, I can't sing the praises of this stage enough, probably the best thing to ever come out of the Vuelta, I will be interested to see what they're going to make of the Andorra stage that they're promising us in next year's Tour, knowing them it will probably be a _____/ job on Arcalis

14 km @ 7.60%? Didnt look so hard at the profile at all, lol. But that definetly will be fun! Strange enough tho, I somehow look more forward to stage 16 than 11, I have seen way too many of those profiles resulting in minor gaps on the last climb, unfortunately. I think stage 16 will be some of the best and most explosive cycling this year, also with it coming just before the rest day Grin

I dont know those last stages will be hard enough apart from the last one, tho. At least not the stage to Avila. But its definitely good they are trying something new instead of having the normal MTF on stage 20.

Edit: On the Andorra stage in TdF, well, if they do that, screw them. But I very much doubt it since they will finish in the Pyrenées in 2016 which should equal a goodie, alike this stage in the Vuelta!

Everyone could see it coming. The Padua case has finally been shelved. One big strom in a small glas of water.

I think you meant Padova not Padua, anyway I suspected this was going nowhere. Looks like Ferrari wants compensation and both Scarponi and Visconti can appeal for the suspensions they served according to Cyclingnews https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/repor...sanctions/
