More time on Madrazo, perfect. Next stage is the last stage that Ricco has a likely chance of gaining more of an advantage on Andy, so hopefully it is more like the first hill stage than the next two! Allez Andy! |

Kratochvila!
Velits finally with a little bit better mountain stage, but still not really satisfied with the fact he was minutes behind Ricco who really shouldn't be a better rider for these mountain stages. Hopefully Velits can limit his losses in the next stage to be able to have a realistic chance to finish at least in the top 5.

Great effort of Ginanni once more, hopefully he has something left in tank for last hilly rated stage. Congrats to Roman, great to see Czech rider celebrating on Grand Tour

Well done Ricco there, not being gapped by Schleck. Also nice to see Cunego up there, eventhough he passed Guldhammer in the GC.
Speaking of Guldhammer, admitedly that looked more like his real level. Hopefully he can keep it up and keep Pozzovivo, Denifl and those several minutes behind him at a safe distance, thus a top 7 looks likely, which would make me very happy.
Congratulations to Roman on the stage win, and Galta with a nice second place, actually giving us the lead in the teams competition. We'll need a lot of breakaway luck to keep it, but at least it's cool to lead it |

This is definetely a more normal performance by Brajko, but he's still doing pretty damn good!
Don't really think he will regain that 4th spot in GC, but hopefully he could hold on to that 5th place for a while.. A top ten is already succes in my books!
Also Anton just keeps impressing. Can't say I expected him to finish with Nibali all the time

Wow great Giro for us so far, we already have 1 (mountain) stage win, leading in the KoM, 3 riders in the top-20 and 2nd in team rankings, hope we can keep this up, and as always nice reports roturn!!!

Good result for Topchanyuk. Shame he attacks on the hillier stages, should go in the mountains and leave this to Prevar, but it's okay.
Orlov seems to be struggling, expect him to drop out soon.

Nice stage from/for Pozzovivo. Glad to see him attacking and gaining time. Could be important seconds/minutes!
Breakaway wins left and right though. Grivko, wake up please!
Ricco really impressive in the hills. One or two great days for Schleck/Madrazo can change things, but definitely a huge Giro for Festina already.

It's frustrating how the other GC guys don't even try. A climb that small should not have yielded another 2 minutes.
Really need to let loose on the final mountain stages now

Ricco once again really producing a big performance on the hills in the spirit of Cunego - in the past he would have used a stage like that to slip out a couple of minutes.
Annoyed that these good hilly performance by Skiddy are not really reflected in results thanks to breakaway. No doubt we will be chasing like morons next stage for the not really flat finish. Then its squeaky bum time for Ricco and the Festina crew. Obviously Ricco will lose time on the chrono but it will be the next couple of days where Schleck and Madrazo will have to make their Giro charge.
You feel already Madrazo could well be short of completing his set... Andy not sure he can make big comebacks as we have seen before.

Great result again. Still no chance of getting the overall win, but extremely important to claw back time again, to get those competitors for the top 10GC further behind.
Also important, that Ricco got another 9 points for the pointsjersey, so he gets further away from the main competitors.
Next stage is very interesting because it is rated flat, but clearly ends uphill. I just really hope that Ricco is not asleep, and wants to fight for that sprint - And atleast not lose any time. That is the most important thing. We are happy to allow another breakaway to take the win, in order to let the points for the points jersey go away.

No chance? Top-10 competition?
I'm a pessimist, too, but come on, mate: of course there's a chance now. I still believe in Schleck though.

Yay Siutsou! Winning is so much more fun than not winning. GC has been weird this year.

Nah, looking at the gaps that are easily produced on the mountainstage I am not going to dream of a top 5 just yet. He lost 3 minutes on the first mountainstage, and while he did well on the second I am more inclined to believe he will be losing 2-3 minutes pr. mountainstage so far. Probably not to all the riders in the top 10, but he can't just attack all the time, and at some point those 7-8-9-10 riders will start attacking early, and could easily take 3-4 minutes on Ricco because he is looking at himself as a GC contender mainly looking after Schleck and Madrazo, I think.
The amount of time I have lost this season on hilly/mountainstages won't make me think a top this or that is safe at all.
I guess Ricco will lose 2-3 minutes on Schleck and Madrazo on the TT, and might still be leading after that stage, but after that, he will fall down the ranks. And it only takes one of those Nibali-like stages to make him hammer down the ranks.

Great try by Ruben, not strong enough in the break, but that wasn't a surprise with Scarponi there, strange that Claeys attack, might be he lost confidence in Denifl?
