Nobody seems to be worried about the wellbeing of the pole. Never nice being headbutted by a Welshman.
If it was Danny Pate, the pole would have been knocked into the ditch and he'd have carried on.
If it was Danny Pate, Barguil would've crashed into a concrete wall called Pate and wouldn't have lived to tell the tale.
Barguil would have actually hit Pate's powerful forcefield and been sent back to the start of the climb.
With a lightning scar on his forehead.

Though I'm all in favor of also training young riders in safety. Get them ready for the hazards of the roads as well as the classic training.
(for example also that when a train approaches, you stop, those things, you know)
Maybe they should have L plates on there bikes
Mandatory training wheels!

There is no need to cruficy Barguil after the incident. I don't know all that much about him, but from what I've seen in interviews he seems like a good guy. People who are going on about him being an idiot, saying he lacks respect for the other riders, that he doesn't care about their wellbeing as long as he finishes in the top 10, are dead wrong, in my opinion.
He's young, and in a decent like that there is alot of adrenaline. He had a momentary laps where he didn't pay attention.
According to some people here on this site, experienced riders have never, ever in the whole history of cycling, ever made a mistake in a downhill.
Barguil seems like a stand up chap, and I'm surprised if he doesn't give a heartfelt and apologetic interview afterwards, and perhaps even goes to the Sky-bus to appologize.
I agree. It was a matter of Barguil being young and foolish on a descent, taking too many risks, and it was dumb of him. But surely he didn't mean any malice by it, he just made a mistake.

Yeah, Sagan really need to learn how to descent safely...

Nice win for Rubinho.
Sagan once again strongest but everybody looking at him. Absolutely loved his salute when he crossed the line.
Whole favourites group was moving up and down during the descent. Not sure you can really blame Barguil.

Also would have loved for Froome to have a mechanical once Poels stopped to wait for Thomas. Smoothies don't make you smarter it seems.

Also interview for cyclingnews was totally perfect:
"I was again very close. I'm glad because I was going for second place…"
"Sagan was asked why he went into the breakaway for a third straight day, replying because "I have big balls" leaving the interviewer stunned." |

He should have already won it last year but if they don't give the supercombativité to Sagan this year it's a joke

He is totally awesome.
His english is getting along quite good as well.
I wish one of the American teams would somehow figure out a way to pay him the salary he commands.
The fans absolutely love the guy when he races over here and it would have a very positive effect on American cycling I have to think. |

Well once again the Col du Manse and run into Gap delivers again, this Climb/Descent is staring to become a legend of the Tour
You call the climb a legend, others call it repetive and unimaginative for the ASO to use it so often lately.
Glad there was no Beloki-type of injury involved with G and he has made it to the finish.
Mhm, I've come to know Barguil as a pretty nice guy all over. That said, havn't seen the stage nor the crash, but I can't imagine that this guy doesn't have respect for other riders. Maybe he just lost control there for a sec or two. Shit like this happens unfortunately.
I agree that they shouldn't overuse the climb, I am just saying that it always delivers
Well Barguil has apologised to Thomas after the finish and he certainly made a mistake but it wasn't a lack of respect but more a mistake a young rider makes who isn't a great descender. He just went into the corner hot and locked up his breaks and tried correct but hit Thomas instead.
What are the arguments for not using the climb/stage? We want to see things that are different? When different most of the time is boring as shit.
When you have a stage that is great for the fans shouldnt you use it every race? Why not? |
