This idea and log is inspired by miggi133, who did a similar thing last year! Thanks for the idea and support
As I have said in the running thread a few weeks ago, I have been lacking the motivation to get out and get running lately. I have so much unused natural talent that could be used to9 great potential if I actually trained. I figure that being able to share my story on here will help me get motivation and support as I try to prepare for a great season. I guess I should give a total back-story about my running career to this point, as the log/story will then begin.
It was my freshman year of high school when a good friend of mine mentioned something about joining the cross country team. My favorite thing to do in gym class was the mile run, which we only did 4 times a year. They knew I liked to run, but was too shy to join the team because I would not know anybody on the team. So I went to the interest meeting at the end of my freshman year, and the coach was a 60 year old lady, who had tons of experience. She suggested I run my first ever 5K prior to the year, so I would know what to expect. Come July before my Sophomore year, I was finally going to run my first 5K. The result? 20 minutes and 30 seconds. Many people were beyond amazed. There were people on this time training for years that could not break 21. This was the day that I knew running would be my sport. I finished 3rd place in my first ever high school race. Nothing great that year, just getting into the sport. I also joined the track team that year, which went the same.
Junior year of high school came, and I learned who my rival would be. Yes, it was a teammate. Yes, I couldn't stand not being the best on my team, as I finally had reached that point. He had more natural talent than me, yet used it less than I did. You would never find him taking a practice seriously, which is what made me upset. How could he be better than me and not work harder than me!? Regardless, I made it through most of the year beating him every time. I finished as a first team conference all star, with a best time of 18:04.
Fast forward to my senior year, my injury problems were arising. Maybe is was from not warming up or cooling down, maybe it was from lack of summer training, but my feet would be killing me near the end of every run. I finished with a PR of 17:35, and was sick for district championships the second year in a row. That teammate I mentioned? Yes, he made it to state championships, something I dreamed about but failed to do. Track was good again, I was in the state championships, finally, where I actually led the first 2 laps of the 2 mile just to do it, and finished around 13th. At this time is where I decided to attend Thiel College, where I will be a Junior this fall.
My first 2 years in college can be summed up as disappointing. I have a doctors order that I must not wear spikes, because I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, and mu motivation was very low. That brings us to today, where I am training to be the co-leader of my collegiate team this fall. We have 7 men, which now I am currently the second best. I find myself in the same situation as high school, can I capitalize!?
The updates will come daily as I am running, and I will post a schedule and some other goals in the coming days. Feel free to ask questions or make comments as this thing gets rolling!!

I know this sounds strange, but I thought you played golf?
Disclaimer- Most of my posts are me thinking aloud. And most of what I think is rubbish.

Golf is a hobby, I am not good at it, I just do it.. as some people go hunting and fishing, I golf instead. Running is my main sport that I compete at the NCAA level

Nothing too spectacular about today's run. I was primarily going for the distance and was often at points texting on my phone, obviously slowing me down. The 6 miles did not feel bad at all, just something to get me started for the rest of summer. I am thinking about running a road race this Saturday, it would be my first race of the summer. The only thing to consider right now is if I want to put forward $25 to do it. I have won this race 2 out of the past 3 years, and was 2nd the other year.
73 degree fairly sunny weather for the race today. Started off at a faster pace, which I have done my entire life. I consistently got same times later into the run, even though it was not very fast. Was quite happy with the run overall, and gives me a solid base and start for the remainder of the summer. I am setting a goal for 25 miles this week, and the 6 that I got tonight gets me right on track for the week. As you can see from the profile, it was a relatively flat run today, with barely and elevation. I will get into the hills later in the summer.
Well, that's about it for the run today. If you guys have any comments, suggestions, questions, feel free to post below. I shall give everyone an update after my next run.

Its hard and it's annoying but I feel bad telling my girlfriend I won't talk to her when I'm just going on a simple easy run. I already carry it while running for music purposes and also I use swipe keyboard so it's relatively easy

Mate she can handle 1 hour without you surely?
Keep focused and try and think of the end goals all the best in training this week
What a hot morning for a run! I decided to go through with the race and paid the $25 entrance fee. Only a field of about 40 runners for this one. I started at the front as I usually do. As the start gun went off, it was an immediate surge to the first place position for me. I never lost the lead, the entire race. As I have a problem often of looking back, today was no different. The entire race, the runner up remained about 6 seconds behind me, but as we were both losing energy at a similiar rate, he did not have what it took to catch me at the end, and I won by 5 seconds. There was a slight gap from 2nd to the rest of the field.
As we got close to the one mile, there was a very steep uphill climb that I managed to power up and extend my lead a bit, my opponent went a little harder on the downhill that followed to catch up to me. I started running out of energy as the 2.5 mile mark hit, my music and the opponent still maintaining the gap behind me was my motivation to force myself to the line. After the race, I was treated to a $25 gift card to a local running shop, and a medal that will join my collection. It looks like my next race will be Friday the 24th, which will have more competition for myself. A 19:02 was a good time for me I think, I have now won the race 4 out of 5 years. I still hold the course record of 18:46.
Now, about this week. I am not one to make excuses, but Monday I had work, Tuesday it poured down rain, and the other days I was simply too lazy to run. I am going to try back at it with a consistent work schedule this week. People always doubt me with no training, but I proved today yet again that sometimes natural talent is all it takes to win the race.

Usually you get no kind of monetary award for winning. I was caught off guard by this.
@Jesleyh - Yes, you and everyone else have told me the same thing
@knockout - The money goes to some kind of program or non-profit fund, which is why it is so much. If you pre-register it is usually around $15, but I didn't decide until it was too late.
