Wait What?! That was my plan, you gave my plan to Bauer instead of Lipawsky.

Definitely your best report, I don't care even if Lachy lost his top 10 in Coke trophy and got eliminated, that was a joy to read and one of only a few where I felt as if it was truly real, I could vividly imagine the theme park, the hurt and grins on the rider's faces, Lachy celebrating (spot on, either shaking his head in disabeleif or maybe sticking it to Vague but Franny hasn't been too aggressive so not really likely). Fantastic writing.

It was mine too
And as promised:
Big blog update concerning everything since I last posted, Vague (I'm not angry), tactics, schedule, and more coming some time soon!

Well, I guess it counts as a decent result, gonna update my blog tomorrow
Great report Ian, I'd dare it was your best one, dunno why. In some parts it even made me feel the race, I imagined Matt mounting off the bike eith Cock cathing up with him. I loved it, keep it up

You're welcome, SN
Thanks a lot, matt17br (& jandal), that's a big compliment as that's exactly what I hope to achieve with these reports
@jandal7 & trekbmc: well you both had the same idea, except for the grappling hook, of course
@all: I'm slowly adjusting the calendar for the 2015 - 2016 season. So every once in a while I might ask a proposal for a new race. To start with:
- New location or idea for the New York Cross, it wasn't a big success so probably will be changed. (can still be in New York, but can be something else, too. Propose a new race, propose to drop the race...)
- New idea for an African race. To be placed on a Wednesday after Struibaai in South Africa on Sunday and before Lisbon (Portugal) on the following Sunday. So somewhere between those two.

I'd rather have race proposals here (or by PM)
Riders are not in the habit of proposing races, so it's not a part of the role-playing, just of managing the game

Bakari may be long gone, but this surely has to be a cobbled race in Gabon!

Didn't mean riders, more like how Shonak did it. But ok.

Race Suggestion Time!! Couple of replacement USA events, two in NYC and one elsewhere. Plus a couple of African races, two in RSA and one elsewhere.
Brooklyn, NY
Spoiler Place: New York, USA
Technical Information-
Technicality: 4
Sand: 2
Uphill: 1
Length of Lap: 3km
Cobbled: 3
Final Sprint: 300m
Other Information: Brooklyn, NYC, looks to host an event. The hugely booming area is packed with bicycles and now could host a round of CX. Like the Central Park event this is all about the looks! The Start/Finish line is located right by the waterfront, with the Manhatten Skyline and Brooklyn bridge providing the background.
There's a short climb upwards from the waterfront to street level early on, but otherwise it's flat. The paths and roads that make up most of the course are normal tarmac style, but some cobbled sections scattered around for fun.
After 2km of racing the riders cut back down to the waterfront to take on a sand section. Compact sand, not too deep and not too challenging, but it's a long segment. Few more turns and it's the dash to that glorious start/finish line.
Primarily a powermans course with it's lack of climbing or dirt, but there are enough technical corners and artificial hazards to test the pros skills and handling.
Battery Park, NY
Spoiler Place: Battery Park, Manhatten
Technicality: 3
Sand: 4
Uphill: 3
Length of Lap: 3km
Cobbled: 1
Finish Sprint: 200m
Other Information: Battery Park is right at the tip of Manhatten, and it's a surprisingly perfect location for a CX event! The park has many winding paths, tons of spectator space, incredible vistas and excellent transport facilities.
The race spends the first 1km pretty much just blasting along the waterside. Very few corners but plenty of sand. Quick starters with good sand skills will rocket away. Some tight hairpins at the top end loop the riders around. The second kilometer is very different.
Custom built climbs, of sandy soil, are interspersed with hazards. Tough to build up momentum, but the good climbers and those strong off feet (or willing to hop) will benefit through this middle segment.
The final kilometer brings us onto tarmac initially, handling a couple more corners. It loops around in front of the South Ferry Terminal before cutting onto a short cobbled section. The riders leave the cobbles, turn 90 left and sprint 200m to the line.
A well thought out course, the orgnaisers recongnising the failings of the Central Park event and working hard on them. Between the water and Downtown it's a well hidden secret of a potential race.
San Francisco
Spoiler Place: Twin Peaks, SF
Technicality: 4
Sand: 1
Uphill: 4
Length of Lap: 3km
Cobbled: 0
Final Sprint: 400m
Other Information: Taking a lot of inspiration from the PNW races comes a route in San Francisco. The race begins at the top of he hill and it's almost a kilometer of winding decent to start with. Not overly fast but those with good skills and balls of steel will fly to the front.
Reaching the bottom the riders cut upwards for a few hundered meters. They then "contour" (follow the hillside) round through some corners. Upwards a few more hundered meters, then contouring again, this time through some sand. A final uphill brings them back to the top of the hill.
Just under 1000m to ride and the organisers stack the realy tricky stuff for late on. Hazards and turns and ruts and all sorts of things to test a riders all-round CX skills. The final 400m sprint is a long one but go too hard and you are liable to lose grip and tumble right by the finish line.
I'll do the African ones tomorrow

Really enjoyed the report there Ian, nice to see Lachy take the win as well in a part of the world well accustomed to Oceanic success.
Cook limited his losses in the end, tactically naive of him really trying to go toe to toe with Vague. But could be a good thing having Buaer up there.

I've already suggested it, I pmed you about it earlier.

Technical information: [enter a number between 1 - 5, with 1 being very low / nothing and 5 being very high

Sand: 1 (none)
Uphill: 1 (none)
Length of 1 lap: 2km
Cobbled sections: 5 (whole course)
Final sprint (length of the final straight road): 0.99km
Other information: A tribute race for Amadou Bakari where his fans sit behind the foam and landing mats that line the edge of the road, the entire course is cobbled.
Profile: completely flat, no point.
Route: Just up one side of the very wide road and back down the other

Okay I'm giving you another day for catching up. Today I'll be "making" the race. I hope to post it tomorrow. I'm pretty excited about the Continental Championships next, then! Though I must say my 2nd big part of the internship starts on Monday. I'll be much busier for about 3 - 4 weeks, after which I'm less busy for the rest of the school year! |
