Drapac Cycling - Season 2014
Hello everyone, my name is Mana Komaru and I am the new manager of Pro Continental cycling team Drapac Cycling. I would like to thank the team around me for giving me this opportunity and I will assure all of the fans that we will do our very best to show why we deserve to be in this division.
We will obviously show our team colours in races all over the world, but we will also strive to strengthen the local cycling scene. While we hope to be given an opportunity to show off our skills at home in the Tour Down Under, we will also endeavour to keep involved with grass roots cycling projects and to maintain our strong ties with the Australian cycling community.
Our team prides itself on our ability to maintain a strong relationship by interacting with all our fans. We love to see you out there in our red and white colours to cheer our riders on, and we are always thankful for all the support you have given us over the history of this team.
The full roster for 2014 is to be announced here soon, so stay tuned.
Yours sincerely,
Mana Komaru,
Manager of Drapac Cycling

Good luck indeed! Drapac may not be the strongest team, but as a new team you'll get a budget that will be decent enough to do something with.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I just hope that there are enough good Aussie, Kiwi and South-east Asian riders left for us to remain competitive with the other PCT teams

Former Track Star Joins Team Drapac!
The management of Drapac Cycling are excited to report the signing of Matt Leigh.
Leigh has already proven himself as one of the top track riders in the world with an impressive array of junior cycling medals to his name. Bad luck and injuries have curtailed his form in recent years, but this has only strengthened his resolve and the youngster appears ready to make a big impact on the world cycling scene.
"We believe he can make the transition from the track to road cycling quickly and easily" said Drapac manager Mana Komaru at today's press conference. "He certainly has the talent and the dedication to become a future star of the sport, and we hope to further his development while also giving him the best chance to succeed."
When quizzed about the role he would be given for the season ahead, Komaru was keen to emphasise that he saw Leigh as being capable of leading a revitalised Drapac sprint train.
"We haven't got all our contracts sorted out just yet, but at the moment he is one of the strongest riders and will be our leader for the sprints on flat stages.
Drapac are expected to announce their full squad for the year ahead in the next few weeks.

Drapac Signs Another Future Star in Hatanaka!
With the end of season transfers set to begin soon, Drapac are glad to announce that the team has bolstered its' 2014 squad with the signing of Tomohori Hatanaka.
The Japanese rider has impressed many with his fighting qualities in recent years, which makes him the perfect fit for a team characterised by their dedication and resilience. "We love the way he goes about his work... he is a hard worker and very professional for such a young man" says Drapac GM Mana Komaru. "There's a lot of potential for him to become a star".
At this stage it is believed that he will be given opportunities to play a free role and possibly even lead the team in Asia throughout the year, which is believed to have been one of the main reasons why he chose Drapac as his destination.
This news comes as Drapac looks to continue and further its involvement in South-East Asia in 2014, with past results including victories at the tours of Taiwan, Okinawa and Brunei.

Matt Leigh statement
Young sprinter Matt Leigh has decided to keep a blog of his first season striking out on his own. Moving away from the boards that he describes losely as a 'Wacky races' style, Matt Leigh is really looking forward to honing his flat skills.
It feels great to strike out on my own and get into this new road team. I think in our first year we will probably be quite narrow in the sort of races we can have an impact. I think the team are counting on me to win lots of medals and boy oh boy do I like medals.
I am concentrating mainly on top end speed and it should be fascinating to see how I do in the early season sprints. I particularly enjoy a game I call catch the pigeon. I look for something impossible to catch and try and ride my bike as fast as a can to catch it.
I hope Drapac can sign some other fast men to keep me company - I don't want us to turn into a joke.

Drapac Adds Two More for 2014!
We are delighted to announce that two former World Tour riders have signed with Drapac Professional Cycling - Graeme Brown and David Tanner!
The duo were previously employed as lead-out men for their countryman Mark Renshaw at the Belkin Pro Cycling team based in the Netherlands and had each spent several years overseas competing at the elite level of world cycling. Both have accumulated several big victories amongst their individual palmarès, whilst also serving as reliable domestiques for some of the cycling world's most renowned stars.
Brown, a former gold medallist at the 2004 Athens Olympics, said it was a decision he had been thinking about for a long time. "I joined Rabobank way back in the mid-2000s, but I've always considered Australia my true home. From the early days (when an Australian World Tour time was first being rumoured) it's been something I've wanted to do, and now is the perfect time for me to come home."
Tanner also expressed his enthusiasm for the year ahead. "I can't wait to meet the rest of the lads and get stuck in for another big season".

Three Big Signings Announced!
With the transfer period nearing its' end, Drapac Professional Cycling has managed to land a major coup by signing three UCI World Tour riders for our debut season in the Pro-Continental division.
The first two additions are sprinter Jonathan Cantwell and mountains specialist Rory Sutherland. The duo had previously been rumoured as possible departures from the World Tour giants Team Saxo - Tinkoff, who have been forced to make some sizable cuts to their squad in the off-season following an underwhelming 2013.
Former Fly-V Australia directeur sportif Henk Vogels (now a part of the Team Drapac staff) has worked with Cantwell before. "He's a great rider, someone that you always would love to have on your team," said Vogels. "He brings a lot of invaluable experience and I think his best is still ahead of him".
Sutherland will be making his long awaited return to Australia after spending over a decade racing overseas. His achievements in that time include several victories in American stage races such as the Tour of the Gila and the Joe Martin Stage Race.
The final signing comes in the form of the young stage-racer Lachlan Morton, who rode for the Garmin-Sharp team in the past year after having spent two full seasons in their development program.
Believed to be one of the future stars of Australian cycling, the New South Welshman has already made a big impression on many key figures of the international cycling world with some going as far as to say he was one of the premier talents in the under-23 ranks.
While the man himself was unavailable for comment, Morton's manager expressed his client's interest in taking Drapac and Australian cycling to "the next level" in the near future.
For more information on the new Drapac riders, make sure to check out the team's website and follow us on social media.

Matt Leigh statement #2
Delighted to see more goons join the hit squad - I am wondering already whether I just may be given the chance to be the lead sprinter of the squad. I can just picture it the wind in my hair as I speed towards the finish line and pick up my lovely shiny medal at the end.
Greame Brown is one confident cookie - mmm cookie's - he'll be the old dog of the team, I think I am young enough to pick up some new tricks. David Tanner also is quite the experienced hound - who seems to respond very well to the boss's orders. I need to be more obedient like him. We also have another fast man Cantwell, I am wondering already if the four of us will hook up on a regular basis and go on missions together.
I have been messing about a bit on the track and having a go at a few of the local 'wacky' bay crit races. Missed the cut a few times the Orica breed keep sneakily attacking on early laps and I cannot keep up. I will try to come up with a sneaky trick to distract them next time

Great to hear, Matt! We were keen to strengthen our sprint squad around you for this year. While Heinrich Haussler was briefly discussed in transfer talks, management feel very confident in your abilities to lead the "hit squad".
Speaking about that, what are your target races for this year? We intend to apply for the Tour Down Under which we would like you to ride, and several races in South-East Asia have also been considered as big events for the team. All the same, we'd like to hear from you on which races you would like to participate in.
PS: Well done in the criterium races, we know that adapting to the road will be tough but you showed some good signs for the year ahead
