The Beginning
Building a cycling team from scratch is never easy. Phil Hoyle seems to have found the right guys for the job in his attempt to keep this small British cycling team running smoothly and effectively. It certainly helped that the team started the season off with a bang. Caleb Ewan sprinted away and even got a small gap in the team's first official stage.
The Tour of San Luis is quite kind to this team. (See below…)
The 46 race season (excluding Nationals and World Championships) ended with Ralph-Bianchi Racing winning the general classification in only 3 races. Pretty obvious there is still a lot of room left to grow and plenty of results left to achieve.
The Present
Bianchi Factory Team started off the 2014 season with a solid ride in Argentina. Esteban Chaves finished 6th in the Tour de San Luis while David Villella was able to take the KoM jersey home. A great result for the team considering the level of competition: Domenico Pozzovivo, Jurgen Van den Broeck, and Bradley Wiggins.
Villella celebrating his KoM jersey after a tough but good week in the saddle.
Looking at the Continental Rankings after January, Bianchi Factory Team ranks 2nd behind Orica - GreenEdge but they lead the Individual Standings with Sam Bewley after his victory in the New Zealand road race National Championships. While it’s still very early in the season, perhaps the team can keep this current form going for a little bit longer?
The Future
We’re at the dawn of an important month for the team. With a wildcard for both Tirreno - Adriatico and Milano - Sanremo, the team will be embarking on their first World Tour events. With two historic Italian events on the schedule for March, we’re sure the Bianchi team will put in some great results in February. Everyone will want to prove they’re worthy of a spot in the top races!
