Story Spotlight: Daniel Martin - Irish Pride
Story News

The Beginning

Cyclists, real or virtually, can do great things when they are on form. Well, Daniel Martin has found that form early and hasn’t let go of it. He started off the 2013 season with the first World Tour race on the calendar: Santos Tour Down Under. After being nicknamed the “Irish Sprinter” because his ability to steal top 10's on the flat stages, Martin showed his true discipline with a powerful attack up the famous Wilunga Hill.

Santos Stage Win

First win of the season! Martin then collected the honor of winning the Santos Tour Down Under the following day.

In his next five World Tour races Daniel Martin goes on to podium in each one them to continue his dominance. The highlights including a Catalunya dream stage 3, falling just short at the Amstel Gold Race, but then turning it around with a remarkable Liege-Bastogne-Liege double to make up for it.

The Present

The Giro d’Italia is the main focus of the story now. Dan Martin is leading his team on the Italian roads, hoping for a great general classification. On stage 15, he rode an impressive final 20 kilometers, beating the pink jersey Rodriguez in an uphill sprint. Now we can only hope the victory will give him confidence to snatch another!

Giro Stage 15 Win

Dan Martin snagging stage 15 of the Giro d’Italia 2014. Quite a victory for the Irishman.

In the General Classification, Martin now sits fourth. The podium seems far off, but with a rider like Martin, you can never know for sure. The final week will be all decisive. We can only root for him and hope for the best!

The Future

The story has a clear focus. We will keep following Dan Martin in his endeavors on the road. After the Giro d’Italia, he will get a well deserved break, after a tiresome season. We expect the Irishman to be back in business for the World Championships and - who knows - maybe we’ll see rainbow stripes in Ireland soon?

Isn't it a bit weird that you have to send a PM to get your story in here? I am not the fan of that idea, at all.

I'd prefer if you guys would choose stories by yourselves (sorted by popularity, new ideas, good texts/layouts or whatever that makes a story good). Firstly, as you're already catching up with stories (in Read More) & writing long paragraphs about them, I don't see a point in sending you PMs and on another side, it's just... I don't know. Just doesn't feel right for me. I don't want to be arrogant (not that you'd care much, tbh), but I think I won't send in anything about my story/ies.

I maybe sounds like a hater of what you're doing with these stories initiatives, but I just feel like few little supportive comments/"advices" would be good for this already a great initiative. Keep it up! Smile

I kind of agree. Its asking to get extra/free advertisement basically. I think it should be more up to you two to select a story you think is deserving and perhaps under the radar or brand new but having lots of potential (not now as the game is just out, but maybe in December or something when less stories are started)

Otherwise nice article. Hopefully the cheque Baseball provided you with doesnt bounce.

Surprisingly enough Ian picked the story not BBL. Wink

It's all good then! However, you should delete the last part of post then, it's misleading in that case. Smile

We do it as an option to see if anybody is interested and feel they are deserving because we may have skipped over their story. All decisions about who we pick are to our discretion (not by PMs). Wink

Like Mre says, that's there in case we're looking over some story, too. We're not following everything.

So far, though, no PMs have been received, so both stories features were chosen by us. In the end, we're making the decisions. Those PMs are just there to make suggestions or to make sure we're not missing a story.

Well, it's certainly not a bad story to pick for this initiative, as it does garner a little bit less attention from perhaps some of the other ones.

#1 I would actually support this initiative over story of the month..there is less reliance on users and therefore the initiative can go on without fear of losing user contribution.

Nice story spotlight once again, enjoy reading this much! Sounds like the season Dan Martin could have had if he wasn't constantly stroke by bad luck and crashes. Keep it up BBL!

#1 Apparently not because I never sent a PM! Shock

Absolutely thrilled about the mention though! Thank you so much!!! Banana

Late reply here, but whatever. I really think this shouldn't be about popular stories. That's what SotM is there for. This would be much better if you'd give it to a potentially good story, that doesn't have as many followers as the "big" ones, as you did here. Just my two cents.
