SNDeluxe Vaugrenard, Landaluze, Tankink and Fofonv were 4 of many attackers early on in the day, although they were the only 4 attackers who had attacked on the real stage. Tankink and Fofonov were among the 8 man group who led by 3 minutes at the foot of the Colombiere. They were quickly swallowed up and after a flurry attacks, it was frenchman Christophe Moreau who had a solo lead, an un-injured Vino chased with Valverde, while Leipheimer, Cobo and Sastre where in between them and the T-Mobile led peleton. This is how things stayed for the rest of the race. 1 Christophe Moreau AG2R PREVOYANCE 5h03'34 2 Alejandro Valverde CAISSE D'EPARGNE + 1'36 3 Alexandre Vinokourov ASTANA s.t. 4 Levi Leipheimer DISCOVERY CHANNEL + 3'33 5 Juan Jose Cobo Acebo SAUNIER DUVAL - PRODIR s.t. 6 Carlos Sastre TEAM CSC s.t. 7 Frank Schleck TEAM CSC + 4'54 8 Thomas Dekker RABOBANK s.t. 9 Kim Kirchen T-MOBILE TEAM s.t. 10 Jens Voigt TEAM CSC s.t. 22 Linus Gerdemann T-MOBILE TEAM s.t. 23 David De la Fuente SAUNIER DUVAL - PRODIR s.t. 35 Mauricio Soler BARLOWORLD s.t. 98 Inigo Landaluze EUSKALTEL - EUSKADI + 16'10 Laurent Lefevre rides for Bouygues - who are not in this Tour simulation.
GCT Vansummeren, Astarloza and Tankink have just 30 seconds as the Colombiere begins. 9 riders attackon the climb and split into 2 on the way to the finish - Valverde used his sprint skills to win. CSC use their great idiocy skills to ruin Frank Schleck's Tour. Schleck, Voigt, Vandevelde, Cuesta and Zabriskie were all assigned the role of protecting O'Grady - losing over 9 minutes. 1 Alejandro Valverde CAISSE D'EPARGNE 5h07'32 2 Alexandre Vinokourov ASTANA s.t. 3 Carlos Sastre TEAM CSC s.t. 4 Christophe Moreau AG2R PREVOYANCE s.t. 5 Yaroslav Popovych DISCOVERY CHANNEL s.t. 6 Cyril Dessel AG2R PREVOYANCE s.t. 7 Michael Rasmussen RABOBANK + 43 8 Cadel Evans PREDICTOR - LOTTO + 2'14 9 Iban Mayo SAUNIER DUVAL - PRODIR + 2'49 10 Kim Kirchen T-MOBILE TEAM + 3'33 33 Inigo Landaluze EUSKALTEL - EUSKADI s.t. 52 Linus Gerdemann T-MOBILE TEAM s.t. 75 David De la Fuente SAUNIER DUVAL - PRODIR + 8'38 Neither Soler not Lefevre are in this Tour simulation.
Real Name De la Fuente is the last to be caught of a 6 man group that had started the Colombiere with a 2 minute advantage. Halfway up the climb, Andreas Kloden set a feirce pace at the front of the peleton, narrowing it down to 24 riders. As he finishes his relay, Cadel Evans attacks and of the counter attacks - only Vinokourov reaches him. Evans + Vino's gap grows and Valverde comes forward. He split the remaining 20 into 2 groups of 10 and closes the gap to Evans/Vino. Evans/Vino have a 47 second advantage at the top though, with now just 7 riders chasing. Evans/Vino take a fast descent to guarantee success and in a tight finish, Vino wins to take back Yellow. 1 Alexandre Vinokourov ASTANA 5h08'06 2 Cadel Evans PREDICTOR - LOTTO s.t. 3 Alejandro Valverde CAISSE D'EPARGNE +1'25 4 Michael Rogers T-MOBILE TEAM s.t. 5 Christophe Moreau AG2R PREVOYANCE s.t. 6 Oscar Pereiro CAISSE D'EPARGNE s.t. 7 Cyril Dessel AG2R PREVOYANCE s.t. 8 Carlos Sastre TEAM CSC s.t. 9 Levi Leipheimer DISCOVERY CHANNEL s.t. 10 Juan Manuel Garate QUICKSTEP - INNERGETIC +2'54 29 Linus Gerdemann T-MOBILE TEAM +4'07 51 Inigo Landaluze EUSKALTEL - EUSKADI +7'10 86 Mauricio Soler BARLOWORLD +11'49 103 David de la Fuente SAUNIER DUVAL - PRODIR +17'33
