Alberto Ongarato decided to do a Wiggins and attacked alone. Fabian Wegmann broke clear after the first intermediate sprint, and Brad Wiggins + Kjell Carlstrom attacked after the 2nd Mountains points.They held out for a while until first Ongarato, then Carlstrom, then Wiggins and finally Wegmann were caught. Robbie Hunter, starting the day 3rd in the Green Jersey comp, took 10pts in intermediate sprints, gaining 6pts on Boonen. In the sprint it was O'Grady < McEwen < Hunter < Boonen < Bennatti.
